No sound

Ugh. Here's what I got:

Positive
-Speakers work
-Volume controls are correctly set

Negative
-At my Sound Properties it doesnt have any available sound playback devices
-My Device Manager is missing the Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer it should have

???
Should I get new sound card? If so charity would be appriciated, im low on money and working to get ram and graphics card.

did u do anything before this issue started? when did you 1st notice this issue? i believe that it is possible 2 fix this issue, but i believe that its best 2 be online that way we can help diagnose the issue instead of postin like crazy over silly lil steps (if you get my drift there). just simply tryin to help you out. also you mentioned that you were saving up 4 a new cpu & memory. i would have to say that you need to make sure that the motherboard will support the newer cpu that ur getting since companies like hp, dell, compaq, etc are really picky about the stuff that are inside their machines. the desktops that they create are so propriatery (i know i spelt it wrong so sue me) that they dont like you adding more stuff w/o them adding it for you (thats the corp world 4 ya). anyways, when it comes to memory, you need to find out the bus speed on it. thankfully, it should be really easy since ur comp is as old as it is. it will most likely be what is known as sdram so the bus speed will either be 100 or 133 (which is great since newer memory is so hard to figure out since the industry has made so many different bus speeds that its not even funny). to test out your memory w/o opening up your case, you can either go 2 www.4allmemory.com or www.crucial.com both places allow you to download an activex program that will allow the site to scan you memory & tell you how much memory you have not to mention the bus speed on it (like i said the bus speed is the most important thing). sorry that i went on so much but i felt that it was important that you knew this kind of stuff. real quickly, when it comes to your sound, newegg.com sells really cheap sound cards, as you can see here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7+1102608534+4025&name=$25+-+$50&Order=RATING anyways, if you have anymore questions, by all means, hit me up on steam.

I did nothing to my comp, it just stopped working. It stopped yesterday night. And i got the memory but i said graphics card not cpu.

I'm still totally stumped about the sound

Have you gone into safe mode and removed all the sound hardware and rebooted to see if it will redetect it? Thats where id begin. Strip it to zero sound and see if it will reinstall properly. if not you probably have an OS or hardware issue.

next, I would try moving it to a diff slot if its PCI. 5 year old mobo...wouldnt doubt a slot died or the mobo has died.

Im not sure what you mean but unfortunatly the card is built in to the motherboard

You may have to uninstall the driver and reinstall it from scratch. But first, is there an error code in the device manager for the missing component?

nope. the component doesnt show up unless i do "Show Hidden Devices" and the is says its fine.

are you sure the mic is in the mic or input jack of your soundcard? If so then try going to the controll pannel,/audio devices/voice/test hardware. Test to see if your mic works if it does not try changing the line in and or mic setting under volume control in the start up bar to mute or unmute. If this still does not work try downloading pc wizard 2008 this will get you all the information on your system as to what drivers are there or missing along with hardware connected to the computer. you can get the wizard here:

this will help you to know what sound card it uses to get the latest drivers and try reinstalling them. post back any progress or new things you have tried.

nvm i fixed it just before the ego vs e scrim, i performed a system restore to the fourth.
