Left 4 Dead 2 has the best Workshop full of all sorts of good stuff. I've always enjoyed night maps in most games but especially Left 4 Dead 2. That and a little Slipknot to replace the default music on "Dark Carnival"...oh yeah I'm having fun!
Oh yeah! I love L4D2 mods. It was probably one of the first few games I played, and it was the game I had the most hours on before CS:GO and some others from the past few years. I remember having spent hours mod hunting and dealing with the conflicts, lol. My taste in mods changed over the years, but even now, I still have a pretty heavily modded L4, probably at least 50+, although I remember having mods in the hundreds back then.
Been a heck of a long time since I've played L4 though, seeing it's quite nostalgic. Last I played was the MS event a year ago? and the time before that was probably a couple of years earlier. I wonder if we can get an L4 event going again, could be fun...
I remember a modded map I enjoyed playing back then was Let's Build a Rocket, particularly in the sandbox mode. Was interesting to build stuff in L4, I mean, look at this (harder to build than you'd think):
Remember using it as a platform to play custom games like capture the flag against someone too.
