Currently the Discord bot removes several roles that it shouldn't when a player has any changes to their MAUL including: going inactive, being promoted or joining a specialty team. This means players think that either channels have been removed or don't notice and just stop being active in various channels. We have several players who once they got there e suddenly couldn't see us in the Survival Chat channel because the bot removed the role. This is highly frustrating and leads to players thinking the community is empty. It also is confusing Because the Roles channel will show that a player has reacted and should have the role. To fix this players have to remove and readd the react role. Sometimes not even realizing what has happened and that it is needed, ie going inactive for a day on the forums without noticing.

I propose that the discord bot not be allowed to change any of the roles that are currently "react roles" This includes Socials, Question of the day, all the event roles for various games, and game selector roles.

I believe the removal of roles by maul bot was supposed to be addressed, but if not definitely needs to be fixed.

Considering the fact that this has been an ongoing issue for a good while now that still affects a good many people, I have to say that this does need to be investigated and addressed soon so that it won't cause anymore confusion across the board.

I believe this has been addressed with a temporary fix. Let me follow up.

MS MS ?

it was fixed on 9/15, please double check as that was exactly a week ago
The problem was reported happening today

Feedback from a few new players (MattWithFriends, Slydog, etc..) is that it is confusing, and there are already so many steps just get through verification. With that kind of feedback, is anyone else concerned that this type of setup could be driving away potential new members?

We already are losing people when after they apply they are being told to go into MAUL to add all their game ideas (something that could be added to the application) We've had a couple new MC players that fill out the form then decide the benefits aren't worth it when they have to have someone walk them threw the process as the instructions given are lacking.

I get that, but its a bit of a two-sided problem, on the one side we have a boat-load of channels from our divisions that cause a user to feel overloaded and otherwise disengaged on the discord, and on the other if you limit that you have to convert the impression to a click for role on a user.

We tried the onboarding system Discord has as a middle ground but found it was too clunky and inelastic for our needs. And I feel like this community goes on a yearly cycle between a fully open server, to a role-restricted one - and its the same arguments each time this flip flop occurs.

I will look into the Onboarding system again to see if it had any updates to make it more flexible, as I believe that once that system is fully fleshed out, this issue will finally be put to rest

So I realize there are actually 2 completely different problems being addressed in this thread.

The first is the removal of roles on discord. Not the roles that give perms, but the react roles that the bot removes without permission or reason. This problem is NOT solved as it happened literally today to a player as seen in the above screenshot.

The second is the difficulty in having someone apply then being immediately told their application is on hold until they access a page they've never heard of to add their game IDs. This has led to several players just letting their application expire due to lack of clarity and having to jump throug

Could we not just add a spot for them to add their game ideas in their application?

Derp, I did completely misread that, I apologize - I agree that linking is the #1 problem thats holding up applications, and its my fault for not updating the underlying system to facilitate such a process that you've described, I never quite had the time to focus on that System/Addon that it deserved for being such a critical cornerstone of our community, our gaming divisions and the forum itself took precedence. Thankfully though upcoming changes will soon put that issue to rest - I wish I could divulge more, but stay tuned.

As for MAULbot in Discord, I will look into it shortly, I appreciate you giving us the heads up that it is indeed, still borked :[
