Mic problem

Long story, short version:

Had to reformat my hd. Install XP, sound card crapped out. Replaced. Sound works great. Now my mic does not work. Please. list some suggestions so I can try them to resolve this issue. I have tried a list of things but maybe I am overlooking something simple...yes it is plugged in....lol. Anyway, list some ideas and I will try them out. Thanks in advance.

make sure you set the devices correctly in the audio devices options in control panel (only use this if you are using a sound card/usb headset)

Did your new sound card come with any software? If so, go into the controller program if it has one. Most creative cards will. Look for a "Line in" option and set it to mic and dink around from there.

if not. go into your control panel and toy around with your sound options/line in. same deal, make sure it's "Microphone" and cranked on/unmuted ect.

you probably have something set to mute or not set to what you need it to. If you're sounds working great you're just looking for the "On" switch right now.

start with testing your mic. This can be done in the control panel under the icon sound and audio. select the voice tab and the screen that shows check that your soundcard is listed as the supporting device. Then click on test hardware to see that your mic works. If it works here then you could have a conflict with the program your using it in. post back as to weather it works in the test or not for more input.

Yeah, can you post what fixed it? That's really useful for other people to know.

Well the new sound card I bought had the normal green and pink jack for the headset. Turns out the pink jack is really orange and the one I was supposed to be connected to was actually black...DOH!

It goes to show that it always bites you in the rear when you assume things.........but at least it is fixed and I had a nice meal of humility and humble pie.
