Not allowed to right click.

So I did a system restore on Vista the other day and i installed some updates and things but for some reason, I can't right-click on things. Like, I right click on a file and it waits a second then says Windows Explorer isn't responding and restarts it. Any help?

You can try a couple of things ... you can remove your pointing device from device manager (although your mouse may stop responding, so you'll have to finish with the keyboard).

Before removing the device however, just try updating its driver from its device manager property pane.

You can also run the System File Checker to make sure that Vista's system files are in order.

Flippy, would it work if the Command Prompt wasn't being run as an Admin? I just can't right-click on ANYTHING except the desktop without it crashing.

you might need the "runas" command, but you should be able to get away without right clicking. Also, make sure that the "menu" key on your keyboard (not the win logo key, but the other one) isn't stuck.

Failing that, you can click once on something, then press the menu key to simulate a right click. it works on most things.

Menu button won't work either. Windows has a grudge against me I think. I tried working with Microsoft Tech Support and they abandoned me when THEY told me to restart. Jerks.

Odd. I wonder if there's not either a problem with your keyboard, keyboard software, or Windows itself. If you can boot to a LiveCD of some kind or another just to test out the mouse, that might help. Also, if you can do that, find out if the menu key works in another application. Finally, unplug the keyboard in Windows and check to see if the right-click works.
