Student arrested for making a map of his school

I refuse to believe that the kid had any terrorist intention before the incident. On the other hand, after he got arrested, it might have crossed him mind to bomb the crap out of his school for messing his life up.

I hate to burst your bubble but there would be the only way to change our government would be through a revolution. Look at past countries and how they changed.

I just said it would preferential. If it must be done it must be done, but we are getting a new president so maybe he will somewhat fix it or he might just lay over and let the terriost have a field day.(NOTE: I am not blaming Georgie for everything. This is something that has been going for a while but is just coming to a head today.)

Hello

Let me get something straight to all of you.

Officers need a warrant to go into a kids house, a parents house etc...
The kids in a lot of trouble LOTS of legal trouble.

The kid was either depressed, worrying other students making strange comments or just was out of place somehow.

Someone had to of reported it as a threat.
All they are doing is investigating.

Making a map of your school is NOT illegal,
it's dangerous and silly to do.
Why would you want to go and make a map of a game that consisted of
shooting people in YOUR OWN SCHOOL?
Excuse me, but in MESA AZ, School shootings are real.

I'd throw the kid in jail for even considering a CS:S map would be awesome in my school.

Get over it. The kid made a mistake. He's not going to prison and he needs to realize what he did was a huge mistake.

Oh crap, i better destroy my stapler...its existence may flag me as a terrorist threat.

Btw, I always like to remind people that america is built on treason...america revolution...treason...civil war...treason.

Re: to Liquid Metal
Completely understandable how it could be a concern and quite a dangerous thing to do. That map getting into the wrong hands could spell disaster. However to flag the kid as a terrorist threat...comon now.

If you had read the original story, you'd see that the parents consented to a search of their home by the police. And what did the police find? A hammer! My GOD, this child is a menace!! He could be pulling out rusty nails by the dozen!

The reason that he was discovered was: "The authorities were notified after parents learned of the map from their children, who had downloaded it off of the internet."

As for being in "lots of legal trouble", he was arrested for ?Suspected Terrorist Activity?, which is complete bullshit.

When you say that "I'd throw the kid in jail for even considering a CS:S map", I don't even know how to respond to that. You support punishing thought crime? Welcome to 1984.

And why would you want to create a map of your school? Because in this country we have the freedom to express ourselves. Where does it stop when the government is allowed to curtail our freedoms?

I still think what they did was unjustified.
What about the mc donald maps and the wal-mart maps they made?
I didn't see anyone being accused of anything there :\.

for some reason I just see it that , they found a kid who wanted to make a map, and used something in his everyday life to do so, same as those who created the wal-mart or mc donald or any other specific store map... except the creator of this one being a kid they took it overboard and automatically thought he was up to no good for doing so.

and they don't need a warrant to enter your place of living, just consent..

-om

iono, i had alot more to say and a nice train of thought.. but then i left for taco bell, and now i must eat it, bye lol

ps; i think it's also completely asinine for what the police did to an extent, i can understand taking somewhat action by keeping a close eye.. but to take away a kids right to walk a road he has been waiting 4 years to do and graduate, is a low blow and completely asinine... I would be irate if that happened to me, if someone told me that my hard work for the past 4 years is almost done, and the day i am supposed to be rewarded and to make my family proud, i have to sit out and cant attend.. .. bah i ono, just so wrong on many levels.. taco bell here I come!

I DID read the article.

The kid was dumb for doing a map of his school.
It's truly just not a smart thing to do.
If any of you did a map of your office for work, im sure your boss would fire you for suspicious behavior.

It's like a drug deal, you don't know if its a drug deal until the very last moment. No one truly knows what was going threw that kids head.
I'd prefer they made sure he was not planning anything threw a SCHOOL.

EXCUSE ME!?
A SCHOOL.

If he did it for any school you guys would seriously be out of your minds to defend him.

I meant what I said, a map of a SCHOOL IS JUST NOT RIGHT PERIOD.

No one is saying it isn't dumb, but they didn't charge him for amything let alone have anything on him. He still can't graduate with his class which is asinine. No one said the map probably wasn't the keenest of things.

I think if you were put at his end you'd be irate and think it was unjust..... because it is.

Asking to enter his home and rearrange his room looking for a "weapon" is justified, but not letting him graduate with his class wasn't.

And he DIDN"T do it for an elementary school so you can't bring that up, he did it of his school, that's just adding on things to try and make a point which isn't going anywhere.

So, you're fine with allowing the government to violate our rights because someone may be "suspicious"?

The entire point of this article isn't about whether making a CS:S map of a school, my place of employment, or anywhere else for that matter, is a smart thing to do. It's about how a federally funded institution has violated someone's first amendment rights.

I don't see why kid's are allowed to play the game where they are actually terrorists "killing" counter-terrorists, but they can't make a mock map of their school? I mean I can understand suspicion to a certain extent, but if the kid was going to actually shoot up his school, why would he make the map? Virtually running through with an AK47 with flash grenades going off wouldn't really prepare him for the actual day...

For that reason, I think that this whole situation is just dumb. I guarantee that if you look back at any school shooting, none of them were involved with Counterstrike. Lol.

I guess this means that anyone playing first person games and does anything not in the norm in high school could be branded as a nut case looking to kill everyone. Glad I'm to old for that!!!!!!

I can see them investigating it but after it's cleared up there should be no reaction from the school. You know this will go on his permanent record, Do you think this will get this kid into any collage. I don't think so. This country is getting to politically correct. If I we're his parent I would sue the school and the school board for letting this get to this point. (Here It Comes) In my day the principle would of called my parents and had a meeting and solved the problem without all this mess.

My age 54 !!

/That is just sad. Oh well, and yes why would they take the hammer? That's not even a weapon in CS...at lease stock :P

- I remember when America was land of the free and home of the brave?

- Tell me about it daddy.

- I am sorry son, it is against the law for me to teach you history.

Lol, it seems that could happen soon.

last response for real.

Ok...So they took a hammer.

The police can pull you over for not stopping for 3 seconds.
Do they do it all the time? No... Liturally it's what the law is.

Sure no mock map of a school. Not in this day or age.
Sorry buddy, but even my grandpa said
"Why would he make a mock map of the school?"

Truly...Running into a class room tossing a flash bang is not on my priority list.
I hope its not on any of yours? Even in a game.
Like I said, you make a map of my sisters high school or Jr. High school and
I gurantee you I'll be the first one to alert the police, than I'll be the second one making sure the officers of my state have you on watch.

Period, no jokes, no laughs, no HAHA. I'm serious, you make a mock map of my school, your on my watch list.

He was NOT charged................This means he's not in prison, jail or anything of the such.

Do you truly know what that means? It means Parents and Teachers were concerned. Maybe when you get a kid, and there's school shootings, rapes, or something to that nature going on in your school, you'll thank the principal someday.

The kid CAN graduate, just not at his school.

His life will be just fine....
His friends will still be his friends....
And He will be able to get a High School Diploma,
and own a million dollar house if he works really hard for it.

Seriously...

What a waste of a good looking map, What a stupid excuse to expel and arrest the dude who made the map.

The school and the law crossed the line on this one. It is just plain ridiculous to take harsh action like that. One more step over the line and the kids won't be able to carry pencils because they contain Lead.

I should make a TF2 map of my old High School, since I don't go there anymore xD (CP of course)
