TF2 and BF6 Division Updates

THE FUTURE OF OUR TF2 AND BF6 DIVISIONS

The landscape of gaming is a constantly evolving beast. New games take the spotlight while older games fade away on an almost daily basis. Likewise, the landscape of EdgeGamers goes hand in hand with the overall gaming landscape. Our Community Executives, Community Directors, and Division Leaders strive to stay on the cutting edge (no pun intended) of the gaming world. That means we will often support popular new games - like the recent addition of Wardogs. Likewise, that means we often face difficult decisions about the games we support on a divisional level.

That brings us to the state of two of our current divisions: TF2 and Battlefield 6.

Team Fortress 2

Our TF2 division is one of the cornerstones of EdgeGamers. Many of our members got their start in this division and on our many TF2 servers. Some of us, myself included, were there on day one with the release of the Orange Box in October of 2007. In that time there have been many peaks and valleys for TF2 itself and our TF2 division. For those that have been around, you will undoubtedly recognize that our TF2 division has been in a valley for quite a while.

What that means: effective immediately, TF2 will become a "Game We Play". This means the EdgeGamers TF2 division will officially cease operations and all recuring events (such as 2Fort 2Day) will be canceled. However, our TF2 servers will stay up for the foreseeable future. Many of us still love this game dearly and still want to play it. We are still talking about some events here and there that may be announced at a later date. While the TF2 division will go away, our servers will not.

Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 was a return-to-form for the Battlefield series and released with critical acclaim not seen in the series in years. However, upon its release there was one glaring omission - community servers and support. EA and DICE have given multiple updates about the implementation of community servers and an easily accessible server browser, however those have not been implemented as of this announcement in a way that EdgeGamers can capitalize on.

What that means: Without a server, EdgeGamers can not have a solid home in the Battlefield 6 universe thus making the support of a division impossible as it currently stands. Therefore BF6 will also move to a "Game We Play" and the EdgeGamers BF6 division will officially cease operations. If there is progress from EA and DICE on community server support, and there is demand from our members, then a new decision could be made in the future.

What this means for both TF2 and BF6:

While both divisions will no longer have official EdgeGamers support and leadership, you may keep the "Team Fortress" and "Battlefield" division tag in your MAUL profile if you so choose. Likewise, TF2 and Battlefield will still be available to EdgeGamers Event Coordinators to host events in those games as they see fit.

In summary/TLDR......

The divisions may be going away, but our love for these games is not. Do you want to grab a few friends and go play TF2? Go for it! Want to squad up on discord and play BF6? Do it! The games we have divisions for are not the only games we play!

We'll see you on the servers!

Sad but understandable. Bf6 brought me back to eGO, but it's hard to have a community without community servers.
