does heat affect proformance?

it maybe a complete idiot question but my laptop has 3 gig ram n stuff loke tht so is well capable of runin tf2 and most of the time its fine but then randomly ill get lag almost as if its set to happen on a timer and its the most anoyting thing wen i need everysecind bein a scout.
and my laptop gets verry hot after not long:p
 
yea, and if your laptop gets hot thats bad. maybe you should stop.
 
check to see that your vents aren't blocked. they're on the bottom, usually near the middle but closer to the battery.

if your laptop heats up put it in the fridge for 2 minutes. or get a cold pack and put it under your laptop (not under the vents!)
 
yeah i would put it in the fridge or get the cooling fans to put underneath it. That should help alot with the heating issues
 
1 more thing.. Laptops are usually equipped with some sort of CPU frequency throttling. Meaning if it gets hot, it slows down, or if your only surfing the net, it slows down.
That may be causing the problem, but CPU and Video are the main factors, and these chips are rated at anywhere from 90-140 celsius... so its gonna burn your leg before it ever burns out.
a good example is the Geforce 8800 GTS or whatever,
i've seen videos of people playing crysis in high detail just to warm it up, and then cooking eggs on top of it ....... (this is the fanless "quiet" model) but still! thats eggs cooking!!!

you can play your favorite video game and cook lunch at the same time.. "fried fish anyone?"
 
ummm...PLEASE do not put a cold pack under your laptop. The extreme cold against the heat of your machine could cause condensation to form inside the laptop, and H20 + running electronics = disaster waiting to happen.

They do make cooling "rigs" for laptops, and if you are seeing a lot of heat in your machine, then pick something like that up and see if it makes a difference.
 
Yeah i have the same problem, for the time being i just have a desk fan that blows air on to my laptop, everything runs smooth and all the lag that i used to get gone!
 
I use a cooling mat for my gaming laptop, and it works wonders. They have mats that you can sit on your lap and then sit the laptop on it. Normally comes with fans, but they do have them without fans. It not only keeps my CPU running at around 38 calvin, but improves performance as well.
 
k ill try those out n thnx i werent sure about the fridge or anything 2 do with water
mainly common sence lol
 
I actually have a fan for the purpose of cooling my laptop

Once it gets to hot, I just hold the laptop up to the fan for a few minutes, and problem solved.
