Wanting a new computer

I am looking for a good gaming computer. I'm not sure which computer to get because I'm not to sure on what to look for. I have problems with my computer that I may be able to fix without a spending $900-$1500 on a new computer. The problems I have with the computer I am currently using is crashing while playing any game, HUGE lag spikes without crashing. These lag spikes will take maybe 5-10 mins while i play my guitar waiting for it to fix itself. I have no errors that come up or are present. I'm not a big techy so I dont know what is wrong and what may fix it. Help would be nice

i looked on steam and it told me too disable my anti virus because it creates ALOT of pool memory or something and i havnt had a problem sense with crashing. but for lag i think im just gunan give up lol

first off a few questions:

How old is your computer?

Are you in the mood to upgrade or straight up buy a new 'puter?

900-1500 is a pretty wide range, can you narrow it to 100 bucks or so. say 1300-1400 + shipping/tax ect ect.

This kinda relates to my first question but are you buying a new computer because steam lags or are you in the market because you want to be in the market?

ive had this computer sinse 2004.
i would rather upgrade it then buy a whole new computer.

since 04, ouch. I doubt there is very much you can do with it. It really seems like it'd be best off to buy a new one. Even budget ranged PCs will give you decent performance and will only cost you about 600-800 depending on certain products.

hi, i'm retarded apparently. SOrry i miss read your original post. If you can list your current specs i may be able to work with you. I originally thought you had 900-1500 to spend on a new computer. That's why i was against upgrading.

Either way, list ye specs and I'll see what i can come up with.

As badger said, list your specs. You can use Cpu-z and dxdiag to find most of the information we'll need. The PSU wattage and volts can be found on the sticker inside.

my dad use to use this computer for gaming such as cs 1.6 but now gave it to me after changing almost every part about it. There are no orginal peices i know of that are in it
