Lufia 1 and 2,
Final fantasy 123456 (excluding the craptacular "story"
Secret of Evermore.
Ogre Battle.
Lagoon.
Robotrek.
Terranigma.
Breath of fire 1, 2
Tales of Phantasia
Star Ocean (1)

IM running out of options!!! i MUST HAVE A NEW RPG.

and im not talking about morrowind, thats not an RPG, *puts on flamer-proof helmet* muahahaha

im talking 2-d top down japanese style RPG's

...... please.... for the love of all that is holy in video games....

give me some ideas.

Why 16 bit? Why not go for something like Hero Online or SilkRoad Online. Heck, go for RF online, its epic.

because 16-bit rpg's are what i fell in love with when i was a kid, 3-dimentional RPG's just dont compare as far as the storyline, and the way it captures me.

FF7 was the only exception.

i'll check out Suikoden

I only know a MMORPG (terlum.com) the game isn't fully finished but alot of updating is going on, i'm a beta tester and tested the underworld, that's a map that is full generated by the server everytime you login it changes....

Zelda is debatable, its an ACTION-RPG. and not a True Japanese Style story driven rpg.

The only thing i can say is that after playing hundreds of RPG's, usually the story goes like this.

"you wake up to a catastrophe. everyone you know is dead (or 1 particularly important person) and there is an ultimate-uber-evil enemy to blame."

so you go on a long quest and eventually catch up to the bad guy only to PWN face and win the day.

Somtimes theres a cute female involved that falls in love with the main character.

the parts that arent filled in are the good parts, like time travel in Chrono Trigger.
or an alternate universe in Secret of Evermore.
Secret of Mana was just...good...... needs no explanation.

ff7 had those epic cities with minigames and side-quests, and hidden easter eggs.

final fantasy 6 was ALMOST on par with chrono trigger, but not quite.

Anyway, im still at a loss, ...... i need an RPG that reads like a novel, and plays like a well oiled machine.

=*(

BTW, Zelda 3 is good, and im currently playing a rom version of the DS "the phantom hourglass", although the whole movement by ship thing is a little annoying, jumping over hurdles and randomly clicking to destroy in-water-opponents.

No No, If I remember correctly,Mario came out with his own rpg adventure. It is a great game( I think) check it out. I think its called Mario RPg....dunno.

Dunno if this is what you're looking for, but Skies of Arcadia is a good turn-based rpg for Dreamcast or GameCube. I've only played Dreamcast version and it was really good. Just thought I'd throw this one in there.

yeah was gonna mention that as well but its 3d and not 16 bit, also its terrible

Actually i believe Mario rpg is 16-bit, it just looks 3d because of the way they used about 30 different sprites per char.

any SNES game is going to be 16-bit, regardless of the way it looks.

i guess i'll play through Lufia 2 again, in the mean time

if you have an emulator, go look up a game called "livealive" its by squareenix (then squaresoft) and it was only released in japan. find a good translator and you should find that the game is very enjoyable.

Three things wrong with this sentence. First, Super Mario RPG for the SNES is a isometric view (2D images made to look 3D) game. Second, just because it has a isometric view doesn't mean it's not 16 Bit (and it is 16 Bit). Third, it's not terrible >.<.

Edit:
Ketchup, beat me to it >.<

Dude, forget all that 16-bit stuff, go buy kingdom hearts.
For ps2.

You will definitely love it, its the greatest game ever.
