16-bit RPG

lol.... i broke my ps2.... and im not a huge console person..

i only liked the 16-bit flavor because thats what i grew up with, i remember getting my SNES for christmas 1 year with chrono trigger--- i was hooked from that moment on.

im going through withdrawels, i've tried a few of the games you suggested but its just not the same...

also i forgot to mention:
soul blazer
illusion of gaia
illusion of time
pokemon (for our friend booster.)
super mario rpg (it was fun.. in a crazy sort of way)

so far my favorites--
Tales of Phantasia
Chrono Trigger
Star Ocean (for snes.. not the new one)
Secret of Mana
EDIT--

since so many seem to enjoy different styles, whats your favorite of all time?

Baldur's Gate!

ok, so maybe it isn't 16-bit, but it's still an awesome game :)

Boot, meet evil! Evil, meet my boot! Arrgghhhhh!

Earthbound! There are roms for it all over the internet (although the SNES version is far superior). People disregard it, thinking its stupid or for kids, but its honestly one of the best games I have ever played. Its basically like Dragon Quest, but set in modern times with all sorts of strange and funny things that make it totally unique.

Lunar and Lunar2 for the PS2 if you are looking for a 2d japanese rpg. Trust me :)
