Looking For A New Video Card

Hey Im looking for a new video card, but im not sure what to get. I have a Radeon X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory card atm and I want to upgrade so I can play more advanced games, card wise. So if you know of any good cards plz tell me. Also I want the cards to be able to play games such as Bioshock, CoD 4, Assassins Creed, and Kane & Lynch.

What sort of expansion does your motherboard support? Do you have PCI Express x16 capability? What sort of price range are you looking for? How well do you want to play those games (settings-wise)?
 
You can get a really good card for 2-300 now. The new ati offerings are a pretty sweet deal for $200 (4850) if you have a pcie slot.

It really depends on whether or not your board has a PCI express slot though (doesn't matter if it's 1.0 or 2.0. The cards and the boards are both backwards and forwards compatible). You will also need a spare 6 pin power connector off of your power supply. I can't find the recommendations for this particular card, but for a BFG 8800GT with a slightly higher clock rate (675MHz instead of the 660 on this Zotac card) they recommended at least a:

"425W PCI Express-compliant system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 28A or more"

I checked the chart on my power supply. Luckily I have a 500W PSU with exactly 28A on the 12V+ rail. :)
 
um, look inside the case...

the white little socket thingys u plug cards into are called pci slots.
some will be thin and long (pcix16) some are very very short (pcix2) some are medium length (pci 2.1) and if you dont have the really long ones, or short ones, but only normal length white slots (pci 2.1) and a brown slot nearest to the processor .. its an agp slot.. your welcome!

by the way uh,.... there should be a model number printed on the board itself somewhere, give me the model number and we can easily tell you what you have. OR
download CPUID, or CPUZ, or Sisoft Sandra (its a benchmark tool that gives u info),. or um.. im sure theres another program somewhere i forgot about

I would think an ATI 4870 or Geforce 9800 GTX+ card would do, but I'm worried about power a bit recommending (Especially the Nvidia card) Take a look in the case and look for a sticker on your PSU with it's various ratings, list them so we know what to recommend to you.
 
I'd recommend a 4870 as well...best card out atm...unless you're an Nvidia fanboy and say that the 280 beats it with AA turned off. But then you'd be a hypocrite because that's what the fanboy's have been riding on..."Nvidia owns ATI when AA turns on!".

Just be sure that your PSU can handle it.

Well if your psu need upgraded id say go ahead and get the 4850 and when you do that buy a GOOD psu. Look for one thats got good reviews on newegg. DO NOT BUY A CHEAPIE!

I love my 4850 it does well with all the games i play on it. I know it can handle crysis on high pretty decent depending on the rest of your hardware.
