Help!

Ok, so I just got my new shiny 4850 :D Downside is I can't get it to work with my system :mad: I plugged the right power in, tried different cables, I unplugged extra things like HDDs, fans and what not to see if it would work but still nothing. So anyway, I installed everything correctly and started her up, and within about half a second it just shuts down. I messed with it for about an hour and still the same thing: Shutdown right after start up. I have 2 ideas on what might be wrong. 1. its a PCIx 2.0 card and a PCIx16 mobo (but I know they should work so pretty sure that isn't the problem). 2. It's an Nvidia chipset with a ATI card (and again, pretty sure that is not the problem because you can run 1 ATI card on a Nvidia chipset board just can not Crossfire 2 together) Some of you may be thinking its the PSU, I have a 600w one so im pretty sure that is not the problem. Like I said, I installed everything by the book, the way I've always done it. I'm on my 8800 right now and its working just fine so I'll have time to figure out whats wrong anyway :o I REALLY want this to work so if someone could help me that would be awesome!

If you linked to the correct products then the card is a x16 card not x2. The board supports 2 x16 cards which makes me want to ask if you have the jumper for SLI enabled by accident. I did have a Nvidia Chipset that did not play well with and ATI board in the past. My current board does not have this issue but in the end it could be a bad card.

He meant PCIe 2.0, not PCI 1.x x2.

PCIe 2.0 is completely backwards compatible with PCIe 1.x x16. That shouldn't be the problem.

PSU looks up to snuff, shouldn't have a problem with the Nvidia chipset, it's not as if you're trying to run Crossfire. I run an 8800GTS on a Crossfire board no problems.

Might as well try to exchange it. If the new one doesn't work, I'll look around for you myself.

did you try the new card in each of the pcie 16 slots, Did you try starting your system in safe mode. Did you try un installing the old video drivers and installing the new drivers before changing the cards, and yes i know it will mess up the video display your viewing because of the wrong drivers.

have not installed the new ati cards but the 9800s and up of nvida cards have a special power hook up that is included in the box are you sure you had the power hooked up right.
 
now, post some benchmark results,

put in the 4850 and do the stress test on source,
then do the same with the 8800

whats the difference?=)
 
Well on CS:S on my 8800 all high with AA and anisotropic filtering at 4 I got anywhere from 60 - 90 frames.

On this card at everything on high, x8 AA and x16 anisotropic filtering I get 100 - 200 frames.

Oh yeah and I know you want to hear Crysis, well on all high, 1400x1050, x4 AA I got 30 - 50 Frames :)
On my 8800 I could have the game on high - medium settings on a low res and it would be laggy so yeah, a bit of a difference ;)

OI! you really need to do something with those power supply cables... Use shrink wrap if you have to! or electrical tape.

I would imagine its perfectly fine as far as power output, but thats seriously limiting your air flow bud!
