what kind of tabs?
look in the lower right task bar, does it say anything about "Warning your system is infected with spyware!"
do you ever get redirected to a spyware cleaner program, or spyware fix or whatever randomly when your surfing?
(the steam id thing, just restart steam, it happens to me somtimes too)
the other thing sounds like spyware, BUT somtimes you have to do some crazy stuff to get rid of it
Spybot Search and Destroy (works for 75% of spyware, try it, if it doesnt work-- try)
Adaware (works for 80%, if this doesnt work, it might be Malware **trojan and downloader bots**)
the trojan and downloader bots are VERY hard to get rid of with normal spyware utilities, and it took me 4 hours this morning to find a fix for mine, so i'll be kind and let you in on the secret.
IF adaware, or spybot DONT work...
try MBAM (malwarebytes' Anti Malware) -- worked first time for me
or SmitfraudFix (same as the above, but i didnt ahve to use it because malwarebytes worked for me)
These 2 programs are very good,
After you clean the system with Malwarebytes, or Smitfraudfix it will ask you to restart, RESTART when it tells you to, and your system should come back clean and ready to go.
After your done cleaning and getting rid of the junk, get internet explorer 7 (i dont use any other, but firefox might ahve popup blockers integrated also.) it comes with Anti Phishing filter (slows it down a little, but it keeps your accounts on myspace from being phished), and it also comes with a nifty popup blocker.
they wont block ALL popups, but it will block most of them.
If you use firefox, or another web browser, look around for a good pop up blocker,
Also, Virus scan utilities are good, but they just dont cut the cake anymore, MOST of the time you dont get 'Viruses' its just spyware or malware and small trojans that replicate themselves. So the programs i listed are 99% guaranteed to fix the issue..
If these fixes dont work, give me some more information about what your going through and be as concise as possible and i'll help you fix it.. I fix peoples computers for extra money, and 95% of the time its a spyware problem.
