BEFORE YOU READ THIS ::: THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION ABOUT ILLEGAL SOFTWARE

...........

Whenever I start downloading a torrent off of www.gameupdates.org.....free game demos/free games (free games aka games that the game developers offer for free and people put them on a private torrent tracker for faster download speeds)...my internet shuts off after about 5 minutes...I have to restart my router and press the reset and wait 20 minutes for it to restart. I have comcast cable internet, could it be comcast thinking that I am downloading illegal content..because I am not? I am using utorrent build 1.7.7 the newest build (not the beta)

..............

Thanks!

Frap

This sounds like a comcast thing. But usually they just lower you bandwidth down to nothing on the tracker. It shouldnt shut it down. But this does sound like a comcast thing do to pressure on them from ILLEGAL downloaders. If you connection is just going really slow then i would say its comcast block software. If its shutting down completely then i IDK.

There should be an option to "encrypt" the torent packets, this might help.

I was just about to say the encrypt thing too... I jumped form like 30 k/s to like 300k/s by doing that.

well i've never had problem downloading torrents, and i use comcast, =P so dont be quick to assume its your cable service provider

they dont have time to monitor EVERY file that EVERY one of their customers downloads....
besides- why should they care? your giving them money, the POLICE are the ones that are going to be angry about it.

Also you said your ROUTER shuts off, not your cable modem

is it a cable modem / router in 1?

i used to work for comcast, and somtimes they go bad=) they have a tendancy to overheat

Oh its a gateway for my cable internet, so I guess it's a modem. Not really sure. My modem stays on but my internet just shuts off.

is it 1 peice , or 2?

its probably just a bad router.....

call comcast and tell them to bring you a new one or you'll switch to dish

trust me
i worked for them for 5 years
they'll give u something for free

Comcast swore off of cutting bandwidth to data streams that "look like" torrents. The problem was is that there was plenty of data that "looks like" a torrent over the network, but isn't. Also, people complained a lot. So they said they would stop doing it, and supposedly they have.
