Some of you may use this, some of you may not even know what it is.
Ntune is an overclocking / system monitor designed to improve system performance and monitor temps on Nvidia based chipsets (maybe some others that i dont know about).

I used it, checked it out, overclocked my video card 10mhz for core and memory, and i got graphic artifacts and the system froze.
After a restart it would get into windows and then freeze again after loading the NV display application.

Ok i thought, maybe it didnt like my drivers, or something is not working properly with Ntune, so i booted it into safe mode.

HA! i couldnt remove Ntune from add/remove programs! i had to manually do it (took me about 20 minutes for the registry entries and locating all the files).

Removed drivers, and tried again.

This time it booted into windows and asked for a driver, so i installed the Omega drivers - and as soon as it located the card and changed the resolution, i got graphics errors and the computer froze again.

I had to eventually change the drivers to the 91.71 (i think) forceware drivers, and everything worked fine.

I knew it wasnt the card itself because i could load another instance of windows and run fear just fine, so its obviously a flaw with Ntune and my particular machine.

I just thought i'd warn you...

I have nTune installed and I never really did the trust the thing. I heard of so many horror stories with it that the only thing i changed with mine was the fan speed when I had my Nvidia card. Now I have Catalyst Control Center (ATI) with my 4850. I know its not quite the same kind of program as nTune but it has a lot of the same features.

I basically use ntune to boost my fan speeds on my gpus. Those G80's are furnaces and ntune wants to run the fan at 60% <.<. So I crank it up to a 100% and run it all the time like that.

I have no interest in ocing them. I prefer more memory, but thats just me.

Use Rivatuner for overclocking and raising fan speed. Use ATItool to test stability.

nTune is fail.

~Gooda~

Ok, i already had rivatuner and atitool, but i decided to push it and see how far it would go.

and i found my problem with Ntune but im not willing to try it again because it FORCED the card to run at the speeds i set it to, even when i changed drivers and deleted most of Ntune.

(i was using the newest geforce drivers when i tried it, i noticed BEFORE i had graphic artifacts, and i just figured it was because the card was bad or something and never really payed much attention to it, but after changing my DRIVERS--- !!!!! VOILA!!!! no more artifacts!)
Anyway
---------------------
ATItool - i used to overclock and check for artifacts.
Rivatuner- i used to monitor the GPU core temperature
--------------------
Temps before OC, 48-49 c idle, 66 c max in games--well within reasonable limits.
(im using a 7600gs)

Before overclock specs- 400mhz core, 533mhz ddr2

Benchmark results using Counterstrike:Source Video Stress Test -- 81.0 FPS average,Peak 190, low of 36 (1280x1024 with everything enabled, 4xMSAA 6xAF)
---------------------
Temps after OC 50-51 c idle, 66c max in games-- (wow it didnt change?!)

After overclock specs- 551mhz core, 571mhz ddr2 (i didnt expect ram to boost much, but 150mhz on the core is outstanding for stock cooling)

Benchmark results- 95.6 FPS average, Peak 206, low of 48!!!!!

If you ask me, thats a nice boost...
I have alot of fans in my computer, and its very well ventillated, everything checks out--- im going to run 3dmark06 and check for artifacts, i'll let you know the results before and after in an edit when i get back,

=D im happy with this card so far =) (btw the average framerate of my old card was 63fps...)
