Just curious.. What do you think a Scout should be doing while playing? Capturing points? Killing certain other classes? Spawn camping? Not existing after the initial charge? I wanna see whatcha think :D

Scout is my second most played clas next to spy :D

At start of matches the scout should go straight or the caps, after that the scout is a very powerful fighter and can kill any class, even with hvy it only takes about 4/5 shots with the scattergun, just shoot him from the back and if he turns around run and go to the nearest HP pickup and reload :) rinse repeat

Scout should IDEALLY try and cap points whenever possible, but if they do have sentries defending them dont do suicicide....

Scouts are also great defenders, killing enemies quickly then running away to reload and heal, then kill again :)

i only ever use the bat once my scattergun ammoneeds reloading and im against another scout, otherwise id just retreat reload and attack again.

If you can see a snier as a scout and you know you can get to him without him seeing you (his secondary weap will kill you or nearly kill you) dont hesitate and always spy check with your boinkin bat :)

Valve describes the scout as 'Rapid Recovery'. this name comes from his speed and agility to capture the intel/cap points

Every scout should run strait towards me. Then I'll finish you off with a crit saw. :)

Whenever I go Scout, it is for one (or more) of the following reasons:

1. To distract the other team as much as possible to help my team out. You'd be surprised how many people are suckered in to chasing a Scout around their own base for a good 30 seconds.

2. Capturing intel once the map starts. I'm sure you guys know I'm notorious for doing this during eGO Hours, but then again, I knew the maps beforehand :p

3. Finishing fleeing enemies. A good scatter to the back or a bonk to the head feels good, so why not?

The reasons everyone else above me put are certainly valid, but I don't plan on being a scout expert, but that's because I'm crazy inaccurate being that fast. :p

What Valve claims and what actually happens mean crap... Valve can say what they want but classes are played as it happens. I'm asking what YOU think they are good for not what Valve expects o_o

  • Causing confusion and distractions.
  • Finishing off enemies.
  • Denying the enemy of health packs and ammo.
  • Flanking enemies and generally eliminating people very quickly, preferably while they're distracted.
  • Capping CP, intel, cart.

On convoy I had a very, very fast route to get across the cat walk before most other scouts were even getting on to their back platform. By that time I would be running across the rocket, shooting at enemy scouts who were distracted and trying to chase me, and heading to the intel for a quick cap. About 75% of the time I got in and out just before a level 1 sentry was up. Another 10% of the time I would strafe in and out to kill a sentry then cap. The other 15% I got owned by a Pyro and/or 2+ sentries. Oh and on my way in I would take out a zoomed in Sniper sitting outside the intel.

I think the number one thing a scout should do is harass, and never, ever be afraid to run away from a class. You can outrun everyone! Use that to your advantage!

A good scout can be almost as devastating on enemy medics as a spy. I have on more than one occasion charged through/over a group of enemies to take out a medic and then escape.

I think scouts should be used to help distract engys when spies are tryin to sap cis hopefully the engy will try to chase then the spy quickly runs in and saps the shoots at the SG job done!

and for BONKing people

Scout is designed to kill, capping things comes second.

He has the speed to flank and a weapon that packs a punch up close. You run up to a Soldier+Medic combo and blast the Medic quickly before he can do anything about it. If the Soldier is good then he will probably notice the demise of his healer, so what? You will be away at the time looking for another prey and return to finish the Soldier later.

Yes, the Scout still isn't a steamroll, so he can't take enemies in large numbers even when flanking, but cutting them off from healing and preventing ubers = profit. He's also the man for taking out lone fishes wandering around the map.

There are 2 things about Scout. First, he's only good on certain maps. Running on the 2fort bridge is lulz and giggles to some extent, but what you are going to do inside the cramped base? Yeah...

Any map that is open enough and gives the Scout a real chance of getting behind the enemy back is good. Gravelpit, Badlands, you can do good on most 5 CP maps.

Second, he's not that much of a K/D or point farmer. That's a Heavy, Soldier, Sniper thing. Even goods Scouts die a lot and this has nothing to with skill. Even the best Spies admit that they have more deaths than kills, but as long as they do a 4 stab streak on people pushing the cart or take down a HWG+Medic combo and a couple of guys before dying...it's profit. Same for Scout - maybe you will die from a constant crit rocket in the face, a stray nade or everyone ganking up on your 125 hp. But you destroy ubers, eliminate lone wanderers, help capture points with a good effect. It all helps your team in winning the game. Suck this truth up and you'll be doing good.

We've had this talk in Steam, mucs. :O Was that the inspiration for the thread? :D

General harassment of the enemy, general distracting of the enemy, assassination tactics (Charge in while they're distracted or don't see you and eliminate one person, preferably someone important, retreat, do it again), capturing of anything, not being winded, finishing off enemies while they flee or relocate, and general flanking of the enemy (Rush in from a blind spot and do anything else previously mentioned).

All very tactical, all very skillful, all very risky, and you likely will die. It's really hard to keep a 1:1 k/d ratio as a scout. There are tons of situations where you are doomed to fail, but hopefully your death causes a breach in the enemy's defenses by allowing that critical uber to sneak by a sentry to get to the last point or some other awesomely heroic situation.

Definitely make use of your speed and your double jumping. There are many places where a scout doesn't even have to touch the ground to be doing good.

Only if your a very bad scout... never have a 1:1 ratio or less as scout.....hell i usually get about 3-10 kills before i die....just know when to run and get HP pickups....your just not a very good scout :)

My aim is kinda sucky a lot of the time wit the scattergun but i still d ok :)

And also i miss convoy as a scout, owning all those snipers and getting the intel 10 seconds after round starts, destroying lvl 3 sentriees with nothing but my pistol then taking the intel all by my lonesome...
I miss convoy lol

basically his job is to flank, annoy, retreat, and cap points, he's not meant for one on one fighting with guys like soldiers and heavies, it's all about hitting, then retreating, etc, personally if I can I like to make it back to the enemies base and kill the telis just to be annoying lol
