My friend Dr.HeadStrikeR ! made this video. I am NOT in it nor did I play any part. All credit to him, for I am sure he would not mind me posting this.

Why am I posting this? You guys need to help me out, I can't medic the whole team! Cheers mate!

Humm. Its ok. Does not stress situational awareness enough. You must know where everyone and everything is at ALL TIMES. Including players, where and what class they are; sgs, friendly and foe; dispensers, friendly; health packs. IN our servers you must know where 32 people are and what they are doing.

Oh yeah, you must also pay attention to voice chat and written chat.

The medic plays a mental game. Get your head in the game.

Heh, the classes he lists that medics are "bad against" are probably the top three classes I can kill while playing one.

I also think he overemphasizes the need for a medic to stay alive. Yes, it's obviously a bad thing when we die, but medics have to put themselves in dangerous situations frequently for the benefit of the team. Far too often I see medics that just hang back and aren't willing to get on the front lines.

One thing from the video that I did like, however, is how he talks about medics watching their surroundings. That's one thing I usually see missed when the medic is talked about. Since the heal gun keeps healing the target whether you're facing him or not, this gives medics the advantage of being able to watch his back. Sometimes, that can be far more effective at saving a teammate's life than your medigun.

if the person you're healing completely ignores you and just lets the scout pass right by him to bat you to death only for them to ask "Where'd you go?" scouts are pretty difficult for medics to single handedly deal with IMO, Pyros and spies? nope.

The only time when I "hang back" is when I have atleast 60-70%, but other than that I charge right in the front lines with team mates not really caring

and yeah, turning around for those peski spies also helps but most medics don't do that.

Yeah i agree..

I get pissed when i see medics just sitting at SG's doing nothing and pretty much playing the foreman role and not doing a thing.. lol

Battle medic... TAKE THE HITS !

I know ppl hete ppl like me, Offensive medics! We're the ppl that run by a haevy without a med and ubersaw and blut the enemy ~ completely taking no notice of demomen running past us on fire. :)

As you would hate a demo who watched you get owned by a spy instead of popping stickies on the spy and blowing the spy to bits. It actually annoys me that some medics think it is absolutely acceptable to melee the majority of the time. It's been said many times, the game is called team fortress for a reason. Every class has their roles and responsibilities. Ubers are so valuable, I hate to see the chance to build one wasted.

right I see your point but I use uber when I get them and uber is charged by 4 direct hits with the ubersaw so if I get 4 hits and then see someone that i think is a valuable class for the uber (heavy, demo or pyro in my opinoion) i will give it to them but most of the time theres no one backing me up on toyfort i get made to take cps by myself because theyre all going away ahead to kill ppl, but the aim of the map is to control the control points so I lost faith in my team and would you rather have an offensive medic on 2fort or one that heals a sniper?

I'm glad the Medic Melee topic came up.

As a medic, it's frustrating whenever someone gets angry that I whip out my ubersaw on certain occasions. Now, I completely understand that it is my role to heal and uber, but sometimes, it is much wiser to get out your weapon and burn someone down as opposed to watching your healed target die. In certain situations, its a sad truth; your target will die no matter how much you hold your medigun on him. In those situations, a surprise attack with your ubersaw can either turn attention on you, or a crit from your saw could turn the tide of the battle- the enemy dies and your ally lives.

Medic is one of the most versatile classes, and really requires players who can calculate damage quickly and act accordingly. There are things that go unnoticed by the normal player that great medics do. For example, if I notice that my teammate is going to die while I'm healing him, I'll try to jump in front of him and absorb a little bit of the damage to help him escape around a corner. Most players will just assume that the enemy missed, but no, the medic put himself in more danger to ensure your safety.

GOOD medics are players who realize what is going on everywhere around them, and have a quick enough mind to be able to calculate possibilities, and know what to do if they arise. That's what I see separates the good medics from the healbots.

I agree that a medic can't sit back by a sg and heal someone but I see way too many medics playing too aggresively. The most game changing thing you can do as a medic is use an uber effectively. It can break defenses and push offenses back to their spawn. As a medic my 3/4 of an uber charge is way more important than following some pyro on a kamikaze run, or chasing down a heavy with a syringe gun (I saw it happen monday night). You have to stay alive as a medic, you can get a good chunk of your uber filled in the 20-30 seconds it would take you to respawn and make it back to the front lines where youre teammates are after you foolishly died

These are goos points but what I think is that yes a good uber can break through defenses but some classes who dont get ubered deserve credit - take spies before that uber rushes in I bet a spy has sapped and maybe destroyed at least one SG or tele therefor letting the uber rush in and clean up, and also thanks should be given to those like me, the kamikaze, we run in infront of SGs to get kills we put pressure on the tean by rushing with or without medics. So this debate could have went completely different ways if I had not posted about me being an offensive medic. To sum up: A good medic isnt necesserily someone who heals but if you can blutsauger and hit ppl and kill without dying go for it! a medic may be a support class but so is everyone if you look at it no one is attack or defense it all depends on how YOU play.

I liked how he emphasizes the switching of players while ubering, but he probably made this video before the uber-related patch (where uber time is cut based on how many people you're ubering at once) came out. It should be noted that the more ppl you're ubering at once, the faster the uber drains.

I also liked how he mentions that all teammates in range should be kept at 150%. I've seen too many medics only focused on one person. Spam that healing gun!

Actually in regards to the melee medics. A few nights ago a saw a team of two medics who would only heal each other. One would be healing and the other would have the ubersaw out. Medic A would uber medic B who would charge in kill 4-5 people and turn around and uber Medic A. It was the first time Ive seen that strategy work and wow did it work well.

This guy is a flip flopper...

First he says, stay back because your number one concern is to be that 2nd line always. (4:50)

Then later he states how you should be in the thick of things if you want to be effective. (6:50)

Also I agree with Woodstock, you HAVE to be aware of everything around you. Where the enemy is coming from, what classes they are, what teamates you have around you, etc.

Also it seems he made this video before the UBER nerf. Because when he switches it doesn't seem like he loses time. Now it's extremely ineffective to switch like that, and only should be used in dire situations.

Blut Sauger allows me to retreat without dying until i can reach someone with offensive capabilities..

The ubersaw is generally a waste of time, and mainly used for fun.. i do not find the risk/reward worth it for running around trying to hit people...

However the blutsauger has allowed my retreat many times so that i can live to heal the reinforcements that ovbiously just died.

I disagree. The Ubersaw is very useful, if the user knows when to whip it out. I've had several instances where I've seen spies creeping about, or uncloaking behind my heavy or something...a good stabbing puts them down, and gets me that much closer to my next uber. Unaware snipers are also great targets. :P
