What heatsink?

I plan on buying a new heatsink here soon and I'm kind of stuck on what one I should get:

I like the XIGMATEK one because the heatpipes directly touch the CPU which should equal beter cooling. Then again I also like the Thermaltake Big Typhoon because it has a lot of nice reviews. Im looking for something that is AM2 and LGA775 compatible. (which these both are) (The Typhoon is AM2, I was looking at the exact same one at xoxide and it says its AM2 compatible)

I also plan on buying some Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound as well to top off the whole thing.

I suggest the Xigmatek 1283 because I have it and I overclocked my e8400 to 4ghz on it. Don't use the push pin clips that are included on the heatsink, they don't offer enough contact on the cpu to cool it. Get this to go with it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233019

Thats a LGA775 bracket. I need AM2 for now and I want to reuse this heatsink for my new build with LGA775. Ill look to see if I can find one that can be LGA775 and AM2 or maybe just an AM2 and get a LGA775 bracket when the time comes.

Actually this thing comes with both the push pins for lga775 and a bracket bar for AM2. You will need to buy the extra baseplate if you want a solid contact with an intel cpu. As for an AMD cpu you are already set, heatsink already comes with the metal bracket for AM2.

Personally I have the Zerotherm NV120, and absolutely love it - only draw back is that it's friggin' huge. Didn't do well on the Tom's rating because of the way it attaches to Intel, but for AMD it's easy.

As for an AMD cpu you are already set, heatsink already comes with the metal bracket for AM2.

I TOTALLY forgot about that And I really want to get a new heatsink so I can do some overclocking. My CPU right now is a dual-core at 2.6GHz. I was able to get it to 2.8 but it was running funny so I ran it back at stock speeds. So if you could get a full gigahert overclock then I think Id be able to push mine around 3.0

wal-mart: it really depends on your motherboard and if you've gotten a good batch of overclocking cpu's. The overclocking game is a game of chance, not everyone gets the same overclock.

I know that. I've got this CPU up to 2.99GHz before but kept getting blue screened and getting over heated. So Im pretty sure I can do it with this better heatsink.

You probably won't be able to get too much out of it. AMD chips aren't known for their overclocking abilities...

Be sure to monitor your temps and raise/lower your volts to keep a balance between stability and temps.
