hey im gunna get vista and i was told 32 bit only reads about 3 1/2 gigs of ram so i was gunna got for 64 bit and use 8 gigs or ram will 64 bit vista work with all my games i need help please and thanks

Widnows Vista works with the following for me.

CS:S
DOD:S
TF2
Garry's Mod
And Rainbow Six Lockdown.

Sometimes it seems like it wont work and the screen goes black. But just give it a second and it will be good. If it really isn't workin, then right click, and click
Properties> Compatibilaty > And then choose like.. XP. :)

Go with 64-bit.

32-bit OSes can only read 4GB MAX of RAM. The 4GB limit includes your phyical RAM, vRAM, soundcard RAM (yes, sound card RAM), and any other RAM in your system. This is a 32-bit limitation, not hardware or software. There's no way to get around it.

64-bit though, can access (theoretically) EB of RAM. Although, it's limited (by MS) to 256GB of RAM right now (for Vista Ultimate x64), but will eventually be raised when the time/need comes.

64-bit works fine. Get it.

ya thanks cause i was told that not all games work with 64 bit so now i gunna get 8 gb of ram lolz

The games may not be optimized for 64-bit, but it emulates them as a 32-bit perfectly, with no performance loss.

actually... i have been able to run all the games i have put on vista ultimate 64 bit so far. I havent had any issues. This is just my opinion.

Vistat 64bit seems to work pretty well with a good portion of the games and hardware on the market right now. It's XP 64bit that you really have to fight with, so you should be fine. Enjoy the extra RAM! :-)

yeah I use 64-Bit, I've actually had some games run better because some games actually have 64-bit counterparts they just don't tell you :-P

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition and Datacenter Edition are the only 32-Bit OS' that can read more then 4GB of ram. As far as I know...

i personally am making the switch over to 64 bit right now (seriously like 2 hours ago) and i am pleased. Games work very few problems so far. BUT finding security is a pain in the bootie. I had to settle with bittdefender :/

most of the time vista can telll what type (32 or 64) app it is and places it in the right directory. the is a x86 and x64 program files. I'm assuming that vista works in compatibility mode to run those apps.

If you're worried about drivers, in order for vendors to get the WHQL certification for vista, they have to submit 64 bit drivers as well.

I have vista ultimate 64 and 32 bit. I had 64 bit on my desktop(Q6600 CPU quad core) and it ran fine. The only problem I had was that not too many programs had no problems with running on it. I eventually switched back to 32 bit when I figured out that there was no Itunes for 64 bit, and my printer had no 64 bit support. I bet most of such problems has been fixed now, i dont know, but when I return to school in September I will be goin back to 64 bit as I now use windows media player mostly and I have a different printer. I think Itunes probably has a 64 bit version now anyway.

You wont get too much extra power out of 64 bit because not too many programs support the functions. Here are all the games that take advantage of 64 bit:

Assassin's Creed
F.E.A.R.
Half Life 2
Lost Coast
Bet on Soldier:Blood Sport
Codename:Panzers(Phase 1)
Colin McRae Rally 2005
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Far Cry
Fahrenheit
Shadow Ops: Red Mercury
Unreal Tournament 2004
WWII Tank Commander
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
Dreadnought

I have heard Crysis and Americas Army are also 64 bit, but I have not found proof.

I would do it just for Assassin's Creed:p
I would go to 64 bit, most of the bugs are out, and that way, you are ahead when games come out quarter four of this year(STARCRAFT 2!!!)

lol good luck
