Lagging!

I've played tf2 for months now and never lagged before. I cant explain why i'm lagging this bad now. My ping is 50 - 170. I really cant do much in game. Can anyone offer any type of help. I'm asking for everyone and anyone to offer up some type of solution.

I have Roadrunner as my provider. Yes, I have talked with them and they claim all in going and out going signals are OK. I have Norton 360 as protection, and I've also run Ad-aware.

Still lag!

Hammer I saw you lagging during eGO hour yesterday. Have you tried Spybot search and destroy? It picks up on a lot more adware than ad-aware. You might have some lingering spam on your computer causing slow downs.

/rate 25000 in console is good, try lowering your game quality, turn off any processes you may have running

I've been seeing some real bad lag on occasion on a couple of the servers. At the jellybean scrim, for example, I was really lagging badly. Perhaps we're on a similar backbone?

As for things we CAN control, you might try turning off Norton while you play for a session or two and see if that helps. Norton stuff tends to really load down a system. Also, watch out for firefox, as running that in the background can also eat a ton of memory and CPU time. Animated GIFs and Flash seem to really bog it down for some reason.

You may also want to start looking at the netgraph, and grabbing a screen cap when you're hitting a particularly bad piece of lag. That data can sometimes help. I think the console command is "net_graph 4" to show it, and "net_graph 0" to hide it.

I appreciate the help. I keep hearing about the net_graph 1-4. I dont understand what it's showing me. I see a bunch of numbers including " ping " and a color graph. When it spikes out of control what info do I need to save?

theres different net_graphs, i use net_graph 1. its smaller and displays your ping/FPS
