I've seen this alot here lately, and just thought I'd give my thoughts on it, and maybe I'm not out of line doing so.
I among others are kinda tired of seeing post about missing maps and how someone wants them to come back. It is not my intention to pick on anyone, and I WILL NOT post names, and would ask that you do not go looking for people who may have posted a thread on this subject.
One of the first reasons you shouldn't post a thread on missing a map is because it appears ungratful. We have 13 servers to play on, not including the private used for training and everything, and it appears that your only opinion on them is,"But we dont have (map) :-(" Most clans can't support near that many servers, so shouldn't you be thankful that we have such a large selection?
Second, it is selfish. We have maps selected by the council for the good of the COMMUNITY as a whole. If you feel like the TF2 world should revolve around you, then I appologize, but eGO may not be the place for you. We have server slots for 416 players!! We want each slot to be filled on a regular basis, yes I understand they aren't going to be full ALL the time, but thats the goal. So to do this we have to make sacrifices. We give up what we feel is a mediocre player based map for one that we hope will do better. So please try to understand it is what we hope will be for the good of the whole.
Third, when making threads to try to bring back maps it only hurts the chances of it doing so. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are a bunch of big kids in here playing a game we enjoy. And like kids that pitch a fit for a toy that was taken from them for some reason or another it makes us appear to deserve even less. Council is like the parental figure here. They bring in new maps (toys) for us to play with and try out, and we should be happy with that, even if an old one is taken away. Just think about when they do pull that favorite map out of the toy box how much more fun you will have playing on it.
Finally, you shouldn't do it because it it upsets people, because of some or more of the reasons listed above. It really makes Gardengrovevw angry, and you wouldn't like him angry. He turns all green and scary and likes to smash things. Primarily hopes and dreams.
So to end, we need to be happy with what we've got. Just like we don't talk about "Fight Club" we don't talk about bringing back maps. Be thankful if it does come back. It will have been given a second chance, so take full advantage of it and make sure it stays full. And don't upset Garden! He crushes dreams like the "Hulk" only wishes he could do to a coke can.
