Growing spy difficulty

I generally try to stay away from Pyro's, but for some reason, sometimes it's just plain fun backstabbing them, especially doing a quickstab and their flame dies out before hitting you.

IM mostly a spy in team fortress i first turn to a scout so i could pas by them, and then when i do pass by them i turn into a heavy because spies arent heavies as much it works most of the time and then call for a medic and uber you and then kill him lol

Spies still have the one-up on snipers for the most part, but I imagine that will soon change as well.

Valve has already admitted that they will be releasing some crucial updates for the spy to address some of these issues, the most advantageous of which will be that he can refill his cloak meter from the dispenser. Should help a lot.

You really have to practice at spy to get the good knowing of how to use him. The soldier and such classes really don't need as much skill....Point and shoot.....However an experienced spy will look ahead of him and decide what he wants to do/take out first. That all in all takes some time...Just my 2cents

id consider myself a good engi... of course just about anyone might get to be "good" after 50 hrs in one class.

I know i get owned by some spies, and when i try to play, i fail miserably. As sharp said, its also my firm belief that to be good at a spy it takes more than just an hr or 2 of play.

Solder while its easy to spam rockets at everyone and anything, to actually HIT something actually takes quite a bit of practice in judging the players movement, your movement and rocket flight time to have all 3 come out to kill.

Nothing better than a well timmed crit rocket shot from half way across the map only to nail your intended target head on and watch them explode into a shower of body parts :D

P.S. Sorry for the really long post. I probably would've put more into it but I got tired of thinking for now (lol) and just wanted to get some of my views out there.

Hold on. What's wrong with a long post? :)

I don't remember anything official coming from valve about that. Are you sure you aren't confusing it with This?

According to valve:

"Recently, we've received a ton of email asking us if we had accidentally leaked the details of the Spy's unlockables, after Kaanin created this fake web page detailing his version of what the release should contain. His mocked-up image was convincing enough that even some of us at Valve were momentarily fooled. Well played, Kaanin."

I agree with everything NYC 3L1T3 said. Spy is a hard class to play but it's been getting progressively harder.

I wouldn't mind the spies' 10 second cloak if it recharged faster.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but does your cloak recharge faster if you backstab someone?

Just wanted to leave this comment here. But i think a huge reason to the recent increased difficulty for spys is the fact that thier is a new see through cloak hack out. I have seen alot of recent videos that show it quite clearly. If you want to see one just search for it on you tube and you will find a bunch.

I love spy, its a challenging class to play (challenging not hard) you just need to be smart, aswell as fast. And yes, its kind of a pain to play sometimes, but its probably the most rewarding. The amount of satisfaction you get from successfully backstabbing a medic & heavy, and live to get away, its indescribable.

Its one of my favorite classes of all, i just hope they dont screw it over with the update. (tranqulizer please)

Also one of the most important things to remember: You dont suck if you run away.
If your covers blown, get to safety.
If somebody hits you while your cloaked, get out of there.
A spys worthless if he's discovered, the key is stealth.

One thing that i cant do with the spy is have more kills then datehs because i destroy more stuff then kill also it is ahrd but i think why its so hard to play spy is because of the pyro achivements

Wow, I hadn't seen that before... I can see why people were fooled - pretty official looking.. In fact, I wouldn't really mind if that WAS the update!

Yeah That was really impressive, I looked at it on the blog and the first thing that came into my head was "OMG! Spy Update!"

I ran to tell everybody about it without reading the rest of the blog :( only to come back after telling everyone to realise it was community made..

changes in visability are not going to stop people from doing spy checks - it might fool them for the first week of an update, but then people will just have more effort on running these checks.
The spy is not about how you look, but how you act. <- That is very important. A secondry weapon weild will not get you out of suspicion, as well as being the right class at the right place. I fool plenty of people with the medic disguise actually - people are just happy to run infront of me and get backstabbed.

Acting is important, but most people are so dang trigger happy anymore that it doesn't matter near as much as it used too.

Oh look it's a teammate that's not doing anything suspicious! *shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot* *spy dies* Oh what do you know it was a spy!

Eliminating, or giving the spy some way to counteract spychecking would go a long way to resolve some of the glaring spy issues.

The spy is just way to easy to discover. Pyro can accidentally set him on fire while he's cloaked or just running by. Spy checking. Can't run through opposing players. Can't run through opposing engi buildings. Can't shoot or loses disguise, I've always thought the spy should be able to shoot at teammates to help keep the disguise going. Like shooting blank ammunition at them so it looks like your actually the class your depicting. Most people notice if your running around them but not shooting at the "enemy". Cloak shimmers if you bump someone while cloaked. Always has main weapon out. Disguises are basically useless except in rare situations.

Still the spy is a fun and challenging class to play, and can be very fun despite the problems.

I agree with you its easy to discover them yet people dont check for them and yet its the most diffivcult class out of all of them and like ur idea

Although hacks and the pyro update might be responsible for some of the increasing problems for spies, I think a lot of it can just be that pyros and other players are learning how spies behave.

As has been said, most spies act suspiciously, so if you're on spy patrol you can spot them quickly if you're a decently observant player.

Also, once you're familiar with a map, you know the spots where a spy is going to cloak, uncloak, hide in an ambush, etc.

The really good spies I run into are more cautious, and are far more patient with their kills / flag grabs. This might mean they don't get a huge number of kills, but when they do, they are more likely to survive for another.

IMO, you shouldn't need to run around the map all day disguised. Cloak behind enemy lines, un- cloak, sap, stab..Go again.

Not that this is directed to the creator, but I don't play spy at all anymore (except when I goof off) and I can EASILY see people's mistakes, my team or not. Especially when there are a bunch of clouds floating around saying "Here I am!" I think people should practice, and while practicing, just keep their comments to their selves. Saying things like "HOW DID YOU SEE ME? I WAS CLOAKED!" only shows your mistakes and how new you are to the class. I honestly wish people would stop ranting about the spy and just practice a lot more.

Don't worry, Valve will fix the spy soon. If you ever listen to the commentary's from the developers, Gabe's favorite class is the spy. He won't let it go TOO downhill.
