BIOS question

Could updating a BIOS potentially make it so that your system no longer reads memory that it could read before updating the BIOS?

Highly unlikely, I've never heard of that happening. What do you mean by memory? RAM? vRAM? HDD space (some people call HDD space memory...)?

Well, I updated my bios on my old computer (Hence, my other topics), and now it no longer works, and gives me beep codes that said it couldn't read the RAM.

No idea why.

updating your bios could potentially lock your computer. and make the memory unreadable. ESPECIALLY if you are using an aftermarket or incorrect bios. some people like to installed "hacked" bios and "performance" bios and such. instead of the "manufactorers" bios (wow i can't spell) but anyway. if you installed the bios from the company that makes your bios i find it unlikely that this would happen.

when you did this, did you also open up the computer and mess around with anything? cuz is sounds like a "physical" problem instead of a "software" problem. but like i said it is technically possible.

a few things to try

- pull out all of your ram and restart your computer to see if you get the same error code.

- reinstall just one stick of ram in the number one slot preferably not the same stick that was in the slot before.

report back any differences in error codes.

I did what bakerthree said last night, didn't work. I just pulled out the little cmos battery until it physically reseted my computer.

Yes, that can possibly happen. It has happened to me. However that is only if you manually remove the old version. If not then the old and new versions will remain on your computer.

resetting the cmos, fixes 50% of all problems related to bios and new hardware

Most likely, you did not read the instructions for updating the BIOS. If you are doing a major BIOS version update, flashing your CMOS chip by removing the battery for a few seconds will be necessary.
