Anti-Virus and Firewall HELP PLEASE!

For the passed week i got this message saying that I have a "thing" in my computer called "W32.IRCbot".

So I immediately click PERMANENTLY DELETE!

But I still get that darn message!

So I figure that my Anti-Virus Software is crap!
-It was Symantec

So I then download the Free AVG-AntiVirus 8 Software.

Now at the bottom right where the system tray is. I have a Red X in a Shield.

I click it and it says you do not have an Anti-Virus Software!

But, I just installed AVG?

So I open AVG 8!

Then at the top it says "No Active Components Found"

WTC!!

I am going to restart my computer to see if that changes anything.

There usually is a method or button posted in most antiviruses that tell the user to click to solve the problem. If not you can try manually enabling them all. Also you can try other antiviruses, I personally use NOD32.

try researching the nature of that virus in various AV virus list archives, it might show a weakness of that virus. but sometimes, well, just sometimes... its all too late. if It blocks the activation of your avg8 guard, that sounds pretty serious to me. hmmm, why dont you try avira antivir 8 for a change, best darn live guard for me.

right click the AVG icon in the tray and click update now, see if that helps

Thanks for all the help guys I killed it and that sneaky little Back Door Trojan. Dad got home and I was like Dad I got a virus....

He rushed to computer and he bought AVG Anti-Spyware- PRO and Commando Firewall Pro

He BOUGHT AVG ?
Free works just as well as the "Pro" version does, I've used both, and use free right now.
Perhaps you should try downloading Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware incase it happens again . Those are two programs that remove spyware/adware, and although they don't snag viruses, they do clean up your system.

I have Spybot- S&D its a great program and I have a different type of Ad-Ware Software.....

thats a link to like all of the best free protection programs, so give it a look. I personally use nod32 and comodo firewall pro, super antispyware, spyware blaster, and comodo boclean.
