USB ports

Alright I have this little problem.

I'll set up the situation for ya as much as I can.

I have a custom build computer by a friend. On my computer I have a total of 6 usb ports, 4 in the back and two in the front. All of them work individually, but I get a lot of errors when I try to plug in multiple items, errors with detection problems.

My biggest problem is with my keyboard and mouse. I have a very powerful keyboard, Logitech G15 and a standard microsoft optical mouse. Now in certain instances when I plug in my keyboard and mouse they just won't work based on where I plug them in.

Example(just imagine looking at these as the 4 usb ports in the back)-

[Mouse][Keyboard]
[Empty][Empty]

That doesn't work.

But-
[Empty][Keyboard]
[Mouse][Empty]

Works.


I use the USB port on the keyboard for my mic/headphones. And it works just fine. Easy to access when unplugging and plugging back in.

So basically my question is, something wrong with the ports, drivers, or is there just not enough power for all those ports?

Please help, not a huge issue because I can work around it but I'd like to know.

I have a somewhat similar problem. If I plug my headset (Which is USB by the way) into the port that it wasn't installed in the first place it doesn't recognize it Bad part is that I installed it in the front panel USB and I want it in the back so I don't get it tangled in the wheels in my chairs or something worse. So I put a little critical thinking into it. The front panel USB plugs into the the 2nd USB port on the mobo, so I got myself one of those USB connectors that comes with most motherboards and I plugged that into where the front panel was plugged and so now it works and its plugged into the "same spot" as when I installed it. So now it works just fine. I'm not sure if it is like this on other motherboards but it has plagued some of my other computers

May be a motherboard fault. The only other thing I can think of would be not enough power to the ports, but if that were the case I think you'd notice other power-related issues. You could try using a hub on a port you know works and plug a couple things into that alone.

You mention that you get errors but haven't provided any of them. What are the exact error messages you are getting?

Errors like I will connect my mouse. It works for about half a second and then it just says device disconnected. I can give you more info when I get home.
