guys, i saw it some day before and i'm allready seeing it today. it's total abhorrent to me to see people wearing tags like "ss" or "88" (what in fact means nothing else than Heil Hitler...) just in the moment i was joining the STRAND server i saw two guys...one wearing a svastika an another wearing SS runes in their avatar. what is this? a freaking kindergarten? a bunch of nazis? i'm not joining a community to tolerate that! also names like "oberf?hrer"...sorry...i'm from germany but this is too hard for me. i can't keep my eyes closed on that!

Fighter they warn and remove those with such symbols. However the names are more tricky, and some would pass. If there was no admin on the best you can do is get their steam id and and pictures or condump. Or add some to your steam when you need one. Its not something good, but there is no need to get agitated. The system is the way it is, but it works better than the vast majority of servers, if not all. Eventually we get to them.

eGO has discussed and made a decision on situations such as these.

We allow any WWII relevant names in the servers in DoD. I am sorry if you find it offensive, but eGO considers any historically relevant names related to DoD to be okay.

But of course we will not allow extremes on these names with derogatory words added.

Yea, my in game name is Not-Z. For the "slower" ones. It reads, Nazi.
Haven't had problems with it yet, and no I'm not a neo-nazi, I don't spread hate messages, I play allies most of the time.

Sad truth is that there's ignorant people out there, and sooner or later they'll find their way to the servers. Best just to tolerate them until an administrator can rule, or if it's really derogatory remind them of the rules and politely ask them to change it.

88 could also stand for the infamous 88mm guns the germans used? Not necessarily HH? Just a thought

It's just people getting into character, so what if they have a Nazi spray, avatar, or some kind of Nazi related name like Hitler, SS Youth, or something similar. It's DOD, Germans vs. Americans, if it's a really offensive name like Nazi Jew Killer or something like that then I can understand. But remember, you are playing as Nazi Germans so why wouldn't people give themselves Nazi names and the like? Just relax, it's only a game, as long as the people are civilized about it, that's all that matters.

I don't mean to come of as insensitive, but this seems like something that is more a matter of personal preference, or offense, than something that requires administrative action.

Nazi-related WWII names and icons/logos/avatars might be out of place, and worthy of admin attention, in something like WOW or Guild Wars - but not in DODS.

The subject matter of the game allows for themes like these.

Saying "Heil Hitler" in the chat isn't necessary.... it has nothing to do with the game ... It just means u like Hitler or you just want spit on the germans...

I have to correct you on this but the DoD:S Germans are the Wehrmacht, not the SS.

Wehrmacht was the regular German army, while the SS was a different segment of the army. Thats like saying all the Germans in WW2 are Nazi's when not all of them were.

The SS were actually Hitlers bodyguards, which were the key to the holocaust drama. They took a lot of roles in the nazi germany. Heinrich Himmler was the leader and he for example really searched for the kral of jesus christ ( like in Indiana Jones).

Infact Crusader is totaly right ! The Wehrmacht is not the SS ... In the Wehrmacht you had to fight you were recruitet... if you didn''t want to fight you were a desateur and, if you had bad luckl you got shipped in the KZ. The SS were "elite" which really supportet Hitler on their OWN will.

by the way...the "SS" had been written only SS not like a clan tag. "88" means Heil Hitler because the "H" is the 8th letter of alphabet. In Germany many neo nazio groups use this to show their opinion...in fact it's not forbidden but the meaning is well known.

and i've to correct a bit too...you can't call every wehrmacht soldier a nazi. ok a lot of them believed in the story but not every german soldies had been one. my family itself lost more than 3 people fighting in this crazy war and no one of them ever had been a nazi or member of the NSDAP. i know this because i'm kind of historic interested an investigated a lot of my family history...

At this point in the US we still value the freedom of speech above offending others. On the servers such thing does not apply though, and like i said i have still yet to see something offensive to some one else stand on these servers. The swastika used to be a Buddhist symbol before Hitler. Symbols change, they come and go. Laws in themselves cannot protect us or relieve us of personal responsibilities. And you should know, being a German and knowing history like you do, that the ultimate safe state is the police state, the fascist state. If i carry the analogy to the servers when it becomes that there are too many rules it becomes like one of those servers that you go in and never want to go back at the risk of not playing.

Trust the community and leadership that if this was a problem it would have been addressed long before you brought it up, and i can show you bans in TF2 for swastikas, and countless bans for racism.

One last piece of wisdom. In Chinese thinking, Confucianism to be precise - though i like the Tao much better and i would use that but its too complex or simple, the most important quality attributed to human beings is the ability to do mischief, to be bad - it does not translate well, i hope you get the meaning. Those that deny they have this quality in themselves have caused more evil in this world than those that were poised to cause evil intentionally. The more you move to one extreme the closer you are to the other extreme. Or i can put it this way, which i like better. If you disturb your reflection in water you are bound to get wet.

Like Booth said symbols and names change as time goes on. Does Edge Gamers believe in this stuff? No. Do we support it? No. Do we tolerate some names to a certain extent? Yes. So how about we toughen up a little and just play the game? If there is something seriously wrong...which I do not believe this is...the admins will take care of it.
