I like the new achievement system lots. It adds the aspect of personal goal logging onto the existing platform that we all enjoy. However, I think it adds some unnecessary worship to some of the players who have unlocked most or all of the achievements.

There are some regular Donner players who have a golden cross over their head and they're regarded, incorrectly, as gods. A couple of them have confessed to grinding out their achievements on the Orange deathmatch-style maps or, undoubtedly, with the assistance of some of their friends.

Many props to everyone who decides to earn their achievements the hard way on EGO servers. Thanks for not exploiting the achievement system for personal showmanship and unearned bragging rights.

I've got about 8 or so achievements unlocked right now, which isn't many, but I feel as though they've been well earned in competition with skilled players.

Well, I really don't find the need to grind achievements in DoD simply because...you don't really get anything for doing them but the achievement themselves. Because of that, I'll be willing to work for them.

However, on the TF2 side of things, the personal class achievements get you unlockable weapons, depending on how many you get. I will admit, I had farmed for some achievements to get the weapons, but once I got those, I decided to get the rest (which were all the harder ones) through actually playing the game and working for it (although some decided "Let's get them all anyway.")

That's a good point. If the achievements conferred some sort of bonus on you, like they do in TF2, then I could understand farming them. I think I would do it too at that point.

yeah but they need to put the bots away because many ppl just join a server whit bots and than do all the achievements, unlocks all the new weapons in TF2, i just think this not the right way to earn your achievements. i love the achievements of TF2 but on DOD:s side it's all the same get so many kill whit this weapon and so many kills whit that class. Ok they're some original achievement in it but that's all, i hope they put more work into it like TF2.

i just think this not the right way to earn your achievements.

I agree completely. It's too easy on orange maps, with a few friends or, or with bots, which I hadn't thought of. For that reason alone, I suppose it's good that there are no unlockables.

I like the fact that there is achievements, but there pointless. If a weapon achievement is completed, it would be cool if we got a better looking, or a better performing gun. Like TF2.

not much big into the achievements for the fact that they dont do anything for you but (some) add an icon above you head.. If they only did something for ya more then that I would care more about them :P

I try to get them for my own sense of satisfaction, not so other players think I am better or anything.

Farming them is just like cheating at anything else...you might get compliments on your yellow icon, but somewhere inside you feel empty and worthless, because you didnt "accomplish" anything.

To all their own

Well, you must understand the unlockable weapons in TF2 are not upgrades. They each have disadvantages to them that the other one didn't at times.

As for sunshine's statement on the whole farming thing, it all really depends. In DoD, I really do not find a reason to want to farm for those. When people see that if they do something and they get a present, they are going to do anything legally in their power to do it. TF2 has a bit of that, DoD does not at this point. I don't get people who farm and give me "I just want to get them out of the way so I can play my game." Bull. When you earn achievements, they pop up and disappear very quickly. Then, it just looks like you want to look macho with all the achievements.

In TF2, I got my 22 Pyro achievements to get the unlockables, and I'm still working to get the last 13. For DoD, I've got a LONG way to go to finish mine, as there isn't a reward to do them, so why push yourself to do it?

i think the achievements should be just a side thing in DOD. i think its pretty silly when people go hard to try and get them. i just go with the flow, and get surprised when i get some. i still dont believe i have the k98 achievement.

but, what they really need to change is the rocket power, ITS SO WEAK
