What processor brand do you use?

AMD or Intel? I am still unsure of which i'm getting. My computer will be built, but not that soon. What do you guys like? I've read that AMD is best for games but Intel is for games and other things. If I go Intel, Q9550 if I go AMD i'll get a Phenom 9950.

I use Intel. AMD chips don't overclock well, and I overclock...so...Intel all the way.

If you're gaming and not doing anything else really, get an E8400 (Intel) and you'll be good. Two cores of 3Ghz goodness.

Well i had 2 rigs that were amd of course one of them was an athlon so it was a beast for its time and the other was an athlon x2 both were ok chips but ran hotter than i liked. Both of them crashed alot playing WoW but that probably could have been fixed with a better cpu cooler. Now i have an intel e6750 and its great but i also have aftermarket cpu cooler on it too. Id say go for the best in your price range. read many many reviews on processors. I think amd is just about as good as intel when you compare price to performance. amd is a little cheaper as well and ive seen reviews that the tri-core AMD chips actually did better in games than the dual core e8400 which both cost the same. I know those chips aren't what your buying but o well its a comparison. Also check out http://www.overclock.net and youll see what a lot of people run in their computers and they have many forum threads and news about processors.
One thing you could do is find out the price differance between the amd rig you want and the intel rig you want and see how much of a performance differance is between them and see which one has the better price to performance. I'm not a fanboy either i just go where it seems to be the more power and overclocking room.

Quick word of caution about posts like this. I originally started one on this forum about this same topic. All it did was cause fruitless arguing over what was better. TI really doesn't matter. An AMD will work just like an Intel would. The difference is how they work.

I personally use an Intel Q6600 @ 3ghz. My brother uses an AMD 5000 X2 Black Box @ 3ghz. In gaming it all really comes down to graphics and memory. The only concern you should have about your processor is that it can handle the game and not bottleneck your gpu.

I have an Intel core 2 duo E6550 2.33x2 in my PC right now. I never owned an AMD myself so I can't comment on AMD processors .

Have an Intel in my desktop gaming rig and an AMD in my gaming laptop

I have yet to see a difference in performance in ether processor(both are not over clocked)

Like everyone else has said go for whats in your price range(what will save you a couple bucks)

ps. would of went with Intel with my laptop but it was a $300 difference in price

AMD was ahead in performance for several years, but that has changed, That is where thought like that comes from. My system still uses an AMD CPU...One is not better than the other for gaming, the large majority of the processing done for gaming is done by the video card(s)...Right now Intel has the performance crown, If you were to buy, right now, you should buy intel.

I wonder how the FTC investigation will go...

Both are excellent choices for the time being but really what i think it comes down to is your choice of motherboards and its offerings. In respect to that i prefer intel since there are lots of combos that you can find at frys on friday ads or newegg, its really up to you though just whatever is in your price range

Nowadays Intel is the only way to go because of the overclocking capabilities. AMD dropped the ball on performance, but are making a come-back with price/ performance ratios.

well intel goes up too 3.4 ghz without overclock and amd goes up to 2.6

No, seriously, bolth my rigs are amd. There a little dated but thay get the job done.
Dont buy something for oc'ing unless you really want to spend a week (probly more) tweeking to get it right.

Don't buy a processor to OC unless you know what you're doing, or are willing to learn how. I LOVE OCing my stuff (my poor laptop, lol), and I wouldn't go back to stock clocks for anything.

amd was king during its x2 and fx athlon days, however intel seems to have the performance crown right now. i remember when the e6400 came out and could match or even destroy an amd fx which was AWESOME
