steam help

okay so today i had to reformat my comp because it had a major melt down(which i wont get into detail about), and now im downloading back all the steam games that i play, and the problem is that steam is downloading them VERY slow.. i dont think its my internet because i have dsl, and my other downloads dont seem to be as slow as the steam games (they're downloading at 50-100 kb/s.. wth is with that???) and yes, i went into the settings and changed the speed of the internet connection to the right one, so does anyone have a solution to this slow download on steam?

steam's download servers arent the greatest, its probably on their end.

omg, its killing me... ive been downloading cs:s for a couple of hours now and only got 34% ._.' what kills me even more is that i have cd's for some of the games but they are useless because steam makes u download the games anyways even if u install from the cd's

yeh but if you install with the cd, it will start downloading with like 60% done or somethin like that. If you use cd you dont have to download all of it

yeah i know that, but half my games i bought online on steam, and i still think its pretty lame that we still have to download part of it online, the cd should install the whole game not partial..

Just leave it on over night, or go watch TV or jog or something

How many games are trying to download at once? Your Internet bandwidth would be split between all of them. Try pausing all but one.

i've been downloading 1 at a time, sometimes it would be at a good speed and sometimes its slow :/

I cant seem to find the info, but I know there's a way to change which steam server you are using as your default. I would recommend you look into that and see if using a diff server helps.

well thanks for replying and trying to help i guess ill just have to suffer with the slow downloads on steam T_T
