My laptop

Ok I've jsut found my 5 year old laptop in the basement loL! anyways. I remembered it having alot of Viruses and I taught I could remove it if I would connect it to the internet and I want to run both my laptop and my PC off of 1 modem. So I used the extra USB wire. Well it's not detecting, well it did detect it but it dosen't connect to the internet. I want an answer does the USB one actually work? and if yes How do I make it connect to the internet??? ask anything else I will give you the answer well if you rly need it,

I have the same modem. I believe somewhere in the manual it says that only either the ethernet or USB will work, not both. If you want to have them both connected to the internet, you'll need to buy a router.

I'm not sure but aren't there ethernet splitters that you could use to split the internet, but i still think that a router would be a much better option. Check out the Linksys wrtg50 i believe that was like "THE" go to router for fairly cheap also

What WhiteSoxFan is talking about is Internet Connection Sharing. If one PC has 2 ethernet ports the 2nd port could be configured to allow another PC to be plugged into it and then both computers would share the incoming internet connection off the other port. But it is not all that efficient. Router is the way to go. $50 or less for a cheap one at Wal-Mart....

Ok - so like everyone said above, you can't use both outputs from the modem. You're going to need to get yourself a router like this one, and connect the modem to the router, then the computers to the router.

Once you connect the router to the modem, you'll probably need to reset the modem (pull the power cable for 30 seconds, then plug it back in to restart). Otherwise the MAC address from the router could confuse the modem and keep it from giving you an internet signal.

Well, I personally think it's an age issue. I'm probably wrong, but I had an issue sort of like yours a while back.
I tried hooking an older PC up through the USB port but it wouldn't work. I drove myself all the way to the nearest electronics store and bought a networking card for it and then it worked fine. I think it has something to do with the USB being too old or not the "High speed USB" stuff.
