You didnt mention the games you are interested in. The 9800gx2 would be beneficial due to the higher resolution of the monitor. But it will run hotter, be louder, and require more energy. Depending on the games the 8800 gt should be fine.

Also, if you want an even cheaper card, buy an EVGA 8800GS

With the rebate, its $80, and I can run TF2 with an old Pentium D processor on all high (no AA/Filtering) with a 20-40 FPS rate. It also runs slightly cooler and uses less energy than the 8800GT

haha you should save up some more like 140 dollars then buy a 8800gt instead, i think it will be much more beneficial in the long run

True, the 8800GT is pretty much the best price/performance out there. It's an amazing card. I'd say wait for the Gigabyte 8800GT to come back in stock and get it for ~$90.

Sorry if I sound like a fanboy, but have you looked at ATI's 3870s? Right now I've got 2 in "Crossfire" and I bought them on ebay for 240 (for both). Not as powerful in rendering/AA as the nvidia cards, but it's running all my games (CoD4, TF2, CS:S, Titan Quest, Bioshock) above 50 fps, and when I was running just one I was still getting over 40 fps with everything on high minus the AA.

Its alright man just start selling your organs or other games on craigslist, i had to muster up 1000 when i was 14 to build my computer. Trust me the minute you start in the self-build pc industry, you are gonna spend a lot of money and make many random sacrifices haha. Seriously though an 8800gt will serve you better in the long run, getting an 8600 will cost you in the future.

just to confuse you more instead of the 8800gt for 129 after rebate you can get a pny 9800gtx for $179 this card fall in between the pice of the two cards you picked out.

As for the memory you picked out unless you are going to over clock your computer the cheaper value sets of the same speed and timings will do the same job.
