Strange kick...

Ladies and gentlemen,

I was playing on your server a couple of days ago, and one of the players was getting a little cranky - I forget the exact discussion, I don't believe it was profane. Anyway, an admin warned the player to "watch their attitude".

A couple of other players were puzzled by this moderation of "attitude", and one other player (username of "AND") joked "watch your latitude", at which point the admin kicked them.

I asked why, and was told to mind my own business and play. I stuck around for a while, then quit - the fun had gone.

Now, no huge deal, but I do enjoy playing on your servers; it'd be a shame to have to go elsewhere because admins decide to start wearing jackboots. I've been willing to mind my language and change my name in order to socialize with you all, but there are limits.

That's right. Admins can kick for attitude, anything that disrupts the server is a problem. I think this includes "testing" the admins. Also, if the exact words were "Mind your own business." then the admin should try and be nice about it. Something like "If you want to discuss this go to the forums" would be the best way to say that.

The admin just did what he/she thought was best at the time. Maybe he/she will post here..

I think the admin was a little more polite when talking to me, to be honest - but that was the overall suggestion.

I don't have any problem with admins fixing disruptive behaviour, but one-off flippant comments? Really?

An admins job is to keep the peace in the server. If a player is giving the admins a hard time, they need to kick that player to make sure everyone can have a good time. If the admins are distracted by one player, the other players may start disobeying server rules. Other people can get angry and leave because the admin is not doing anything be cause he/she is busy with one individual that is giving them a hard time. Just let the admins do their jobs, they know what they are doing.

Oh well - I don't believe in showing up at someone's house and trying to change the way they wish to live - so I'll leave it at that. I get it.

Our admins are required to attend a seminar before they ever receive their powers, so "Just let the admins do their jobs, they know what they are doing." is a fairly valid statement. What you need to realize about the situation you described here is that our admins take time out of their gaming to help enforce the rules that our community is founded upon. On a regular basis they are questioned, insulted, and disobeyed by individuals who disagree with our rules. As such, we instruct that one of the most disruptive elements that can exist on a server is someone who undermines their authority through disrespect or mockery.

You can mock me, poke fun at me, and call me names all you want when I'm wearing my player hat, but when I put on my admin hat to deal with a situation the distinction between the two roles needs to be respected. So a "one-off flippant comment" in response to an admin directive would not be acceptable.

In the future, if you see an admin behaving in a way you feel to be inappropriate please PM a member of the leadership as listed on the 'Leadership Roster' on the navigation bar. Our admins are held to very high standards and we do not suffer those who step out of line lightly.
