Why doesn't anyone ever mention/talk about the 8800GS

I have it, its only a tad bit slower than a 8800GT from the reviews and benchmarks that I've read, and it costs $30 less on newegg!

I don't know why people don't know about this card, although if you're looking for a cheap PCI-E x16 card, its a great card!

It's a decent card but with all these new cards out like Nvidia's 9 series, GTX 260s/280s, and ATI's 4800 series some of the 8 series cards have been kind of forgotten.

It's a good card but the mid to lower card range is already flooded (out of the current cards). It's a good card for dell, but an enthusiast can find better for the same price or just isn't concerned with older technology. If the price/ performance isn't a HUGE wow at the lower end, it doesn't get news.

Yea i agree with josey wales, an 8800gt is a much better price/performance ratio than 8600 for the most part, so people tend to go straight to the 8800 rather than even looking any lower

Well, I believe the OP was talking about the 8800gs not the 8600...


In my opinion, the 8800gt was the original best "bang for your buck" GPU of the 8 series. It's the card everyone bought when it first came out, and the same people who bought it are suggesting it now to others. It made a name for itself...

It's not that the 8800gs isn't a worthy card, it's just that most people don't think past suggesting the 8800gt to budget users.
