Raid Failed?

I haven't worked with a raid setup much but I recently made one. Every thing was working fine but now I seem to have a problem and I'm not sure how to fix it or if it can be repaired with out just reformatting.

Here is the screen shot of my failed raid 0. I was able to boot off of it yesterday and It had been working fine and now I see this.

I threw in a different drive I had with an OS on it and this is what disk manager shows.

If anybody knows how to get the both disks to show up back as being a member of the array as they should it would be very helpful. I can't seem to figure out how one drive would decide to go wacko. They should both be fine since they are brand new drives.

Call me crazy, but I've always stayed away from RAID for one simple reason. If you have a 5% chance of failure with a single drive and you combine two of them, you now have a 10% chance of failure. Add in all the additional magic that your software and hardware have to do to keep the RAID operational, and now the chance of failure has gone up even more.

All the people I know that have frequent, massive issues with hard drive failures are also the ones that I know who play around with RAID all the time.

Just my two cents. Make of them what you will.

Yea I hadn't messed around with it for that reason. I decided that i would this time. I have most of my stuff backed up and reformatting will be just more of a pain than it will be a loss. I only have a few things on there that I didn't have backed up and I can do with out them if I have to.

I'm no expert with RAID, but my suggestions are the following:

Make sure that your, presumably, sata cables are plugged in correctly. Also you might want to swap the cables between the drives and see if the other drive shows up as bad, as that would suggest a faulty cable. Same thing for the power plugs.

Also, at least on my motherboard/bios, I have to go into the bios menus and enable raid for each sata port I'm using in the array. You could check those settings and also try using different ports.

Looks like your array died. If so, you're screwed. There's VERY little chance of you getting that data back (<1%).
