Off the normal topic of shovel kill bragging and who has the best sniper skills; Did anyone watch the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games?

All I can say is WOW!!!!

Its all pretty amazing when you think about it. A world at war, almost every country in attendance has been at war with each other at one time or another. Some countries represented are currently at war. Yet we as humans, never ceasing to amazing ourselves can find the time to take to be at peace and simply compete in a friendly, safe and fun environment. Say what you will about mankind, China or anything. But I think that we should all take a step back and just watch in awe as we as a species come together for this special time.

Its funny to me because as a child and a teenager I never saw the big deal. Didn't really care about it or notice it at all. But now as an adult, it all seems to make sense to me. The Olympics about more than just gold medals. Its about putting all the BS (srry) aside and coming together. Shaking hands and giving someone a hug because you do truly care about them. Not caring about their race, creed or color. Putting aside religious, political and personal differences and putting on a smile instead.

To me, this is simply awesome to watch and admire.

Well enough ranting from me, just felt like sharing. Check out the opening ceremony on the TV, it will be playing for days. It is stunning to watch, really.

I refuse to watch it, myself.
On account of China hosting the olympic games and keeping Tibet, a place useless to them, simply because the only leader that could have any hope of uniting people in any form of rebellion would be the Dahlai Llama.
Not to mention taking over everyone's land that lived there.

I just wanted to say how cool I thought it was that ALL THOSE PEOPLE can go there and get along and just play and have fun. Even with all the politics in the world, they can get away from it all for just a little bit to do this. That is all.

i would just like to point out all the changes china accepted to be able to host the olympics this year. They had to reduce pollutants, rebuy and recheck their food supplies, buff up on security, allow western media in, etc.

While I think there are certainly issues that china needs to fix... i still watch the games.

It is about the sport, and not about politics, at least it shouldnt be.

I just want to see some table tennis!

I agree to both sides of the issue. I was very ******! when it was announced. However, I think this will be a good thing for the ppl of China. They will see more of the world and that exposure is a good thing.

As far as China goes, they have been closed off to the "real" world forever and for them to finally get some international exposure and to show us what China really is does wonders for both sides. It shows their people that the world is a big place and it shows the world that the Chinese aren't as different as we think. I think this is a good think for everyone.
