Is it possible to have a virus on steam?

Well my buddy of mines who recently just got Team Fortress 2 is already loving the game. The problem is when he goes into a server his FPS starts to drop. Well he told me that his setting were always the same and was perfectly fine until now. He said that when he looks into the console its says alot of random loaded words. Ex: "sv_backburner" etc. Anyone have this kind of problem? Is he going to have to reinstall TF2?

Any advice will be great.

This has always happened to me, usually means materials are missing, or something similar. He'll survive.
If he wants to fix it, try a reinstall.

Yeah I told him to reinstall, but he doesnt want to go through the trouble. This is what he told me that is in his console page.

He also told me that for certain maps that it would also say like "Map/sound not able to be loaded...Misssing map etc." He said the problem is that his fps is dropping and he gets sorta like a lag spike.

So yeah if you guys know anything on how he can fix this would be great.

tell him to delete C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\lil_brudda\team fortress 2\tf
then launch the game. i should fix it. though he wont have any of his custom maps or sprays or custom binds =/

Will reinstalling work better?

Just reinstall to be sure it doesnt take that long to reinstall and usually you will fix the entire problem rather than only parts of it by deleting single files
