I've already planned on buying a new power supply for this computer. The standard 300W isn't enough for this anyways. My friend bought the exact same computer as well as a 650W Power Supply and gets better performance than I do without any other upgrades.

I'm also planning on doubling my RAM from 8 gigs up to 16 gigs seeing as I do a lot more video editing. My RAM gets eaten up from a 10 second comp in After Effects as it is.

I think the 460 might actually help with After Effects now that I think about it a bit more... My preview render speeds and final render speeds are quite slow, and I suspect it may be because I have a weak integrated chipset for a graphics card.

I'll look into getting a 460, but for now, I'm just getting Call of Duty: Black Ops - Prestige Edition for my Xbox 360.

Notes: I checked the price on the 460 before submitting my reply: It's actually only about $20 more than the other card I wanted. I think I'll go for it when I get $300 in a few months from now. ($100 a month allowance, ftw?) Sadly, I can't do SLI since I only have one PCI Express x16 slot. :(

Are you using CS5? Anything under isn't 64-bit, and is probably the reason why it's doing so bad. It also depends on your CPU, which I forgot what it is already. :p
The GTX 460 $20 more than the card you wanted to get? The 5830? It's 20x better, so don't even worry about it.

Yea.....the GTX 460 is the card to get now. Down the road, SLI it and you will have ridiculous performance for the price.

It's tons better than the 5830, and it even beats the 5850 in most tests if im not mistaken.

You just don't get bang for buck, do you? In our late night ramblings on Steam, you always say you can OC the higher card. Of course you can.
Still. The lower card can OC to match the (STOCK) performance of the higher card for a much lower cost. Yes, the higher card is better. But, still for whatever price point you get the lower card, it can match the (STOCK) performance of the higher price point.
 
GTX 460 is still a win for sure.....especially when you SLI it. It will outperform a 5850 CFX since the scaling seems to be a lot better with the GTX 460.

Yea 460 is the best bang for buck

2x5850s = $600
2x5850s = $600
2x460s = $360-460
$360-460 > $600 > $700.
Which would you rather pay for about the same experience?
 
I'm pretty confident 2x5850 overclocked don't beat a 5970. You need to overclock each to over 1025mhz core about to get the performance of a 5870 so only then would it beat it. Not all or many of the cars can overclock that far though.

On the other hand, the 460's scale a lot better than the ATI cards ATM and have like 90% scaling or something close to that.

Yes the 460's also cost a good decent less and I would choose them instead.

The 460's beat the 5850's no doubt now. But I will say....the 5850's had a good run, they came out like a good 3/4 year before the 460 so ATI made its money.

Point i was trying to make was that the 5850 preforms better than the 460. Which in most cases, it does.

Nice rig. Very neat and organized. What two graphic cards are you using?

Were you using your SSD for system boot only? How big of a SSD do you have and what are the reload times?

I was just thinking of using my two 600 gb Raptors 6.0gbs in a R.A.I.D. 0 config. and use it for everything. And have a 1 TB drive as an internal back-up drive.

I've heard good and bad things about the SSD's. That they diminish in performace as time goes on. And that you need special software to run them at full potential.
