Hey all,

this is a heads up. I was just PM'ed by a hijacked EGo account with this website www DOT tournament-steam DOT tk/

THIS IS A HIJACK LINK!!!!

I wasn't smart enough to keep from entering in my info so now I have to try to recover my account through steam.

If you get PM'ed this DO NOT enter your info!

i think i speak for alot of people when i say this:

Anything that asks you for a username and PW that claims to be valve (except their website) is fake. and also, make sure you have the AVG toolbar installed on your web browser that warn you of phising sites.

BTW, a site claiming to be valve wouldnt use .tk as there website domain.
 
I had it resolved in two hours, I just got the email from them saying that the reset info is on the way. I can't remember who it was specifically until I see my friends list (its kinda long).

I should have know better. .tk is a HUGE give away. And I'm in the field that I tell people to watch out for this kind of stuff and I just had a moment when I wasn't thinking. I never let this sort of this happen.

Just on a side note, if this does happen to you, IMMEDIATELY change your email password. It's not that these guys are interested in your account, they just want all the info related to it. Learn from my mistake, always watch out and never assume it's legit no matter how good it looks.

I'll post the Member name as soon as I'm back up and running.

It's actually not a bad idea to change the password for any accounts that use that password.

'.tk' domains are the free ones that anyone can use, like me. Just go to freewebs and then transform that 'freewebs.com/your account name' into 'anything.tk'

Just to clarify, it wasn't Moore Cowbell himself who was trying to phish the accounts. His own account had been hijacked and it was the hijackers trying to fish everybody else's account information.

In any respect, he has retrieved his account from Valve, and the shouldn't be any more phishing IM's from him.
 
Yeah sorry about that everybody. I got stupid, I got careless, and several people suffered for it. Just goes to show you that you have to be super careful, even when playing games. Veruca, I am really sorry that this happened to you as well. I'm glad you got your account sorted out as well.

Firefox 3 also has a phishing alerter :) so be sure to use at least one of those. Also most AVs come with some sort of fraud catcher.
