hl2.exe has stopped working...

I get this error whenever i try to load DoD:s. I have updated drivers, every vista fix is declared as being not applicable... I have tried almost every start up advanced launch command i can come up with. Any ideas? I have also done everything listen on the steam forum help pages... nothing so far... halp!

System Specs:
RaM: 4gig (800mhz)
CPU: AMD 2.2ghz dual core 64 x2
VID: ATI Radeon 1650 Pro X (512) 400mhz refresh rate.
 
have you reinstalled DoDs by deleting the local game content and redownloading it... or possibly maybe reinstalling everything steam related including steam itself?
 
This is what happens to me. Its happened about 3 times now, i haven't redownloaded yet, but i will try that. I too have Vista.
 
This is exactly what I did
Me: WHat!? Hl2 Erro!?
Computer: It's Vista sir I am pro at pictures not at games.
Me: Screw you Vista!!!
*1 Hour Later*
Windows XP Installed.

Ok i read in some other forums that this will happen with AIM and vista for Steam. I hope that helps, i'm gonna go try it out, because i just deleted AIM.
 
I didn't have aim and it happened alootttttt your best choice is to erase your hl2.exe and folder "It will reinstall it". and another thing that dosen't work.
 
I also have another problem, subtopicish to this. Whenever i press "f" for flashlight it says that it must close hl2 program. This is the only button so far that i have encountered it with. So what solution is there to this? Re-install the whole thing?
 
I use to have that happen to me back in the day in garrys mod. I had xp and it worked fine, then i got vista and i kept geting those hl2.exe errors every 5 min :(.

The f thing, I would recommend re installing it.
 
Okay, i guess i could try that. Vista is working on more upgrades so games work better with the program. I can't get XP on my e-machine though, cause then i get all these viruses. It's so annoying.
 
I have Vista (Ultimate 64bit) and never had a problem with hl2.exe or crashes. Might be that other programs conflict with HL2.exe
 
I gave the text below to Creed to check out for a similar problem, however in his case it was something else, but maybe you can do smothing with it.

I had a very similar problem when starting to run Vista 64bit, HL2 would just bail out in me. Turns out my video driver was the culprit (for Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT). I wasn't able to load the latest default driver from Nvidia, since mine is a custom manufactured (laptop), and ASUS did not have a updated 64 bit driver, and trying to load the default driver would cause me to get "this driver does not match your hardware problem". However I was able to get around this when Nvidia told me to go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and download the latest driver from there. They also tell you how get around the "this driver does not match your hardware problem"

I don't know if it will make any difference, but if you delete ClientRegisitry.blob in programfiles/steam. It forces Steam to update, that may replace some files, worth a shot.
 
Little Pwny, can you run TF2 or any other source game? Have you tried to verify the integrity of game files?
