I have gotten numerous requests for information regarding the eGO CAL Team, and so will address those questions here to prevent the continued barrage of PMs.

Yes, eGO does have a CAL team. However, we are NOT currently participating in this season, as CAL begun the season under the DOD:S beta, which most eGO members did not have when the season began. Furthermore, we were unable to get enough players to form a solid roster.

The next season's recruitment is a bit over a month away, and more information regarding tryouts will be posted then. Bare in mind though that you must be an eG or eGO to play... recruits are not eligible as we haven't had enough time to get to know you.

Further questions can be posted here. Thanks....

sounds good

can't wait to try out, and see if i'm good enough :)

* edit: just a quick question about cal. i remember hearing somewhere that you cannot have custom models on a cal map. is this true? if it is do they just not appear? or do you have to reinstall the standard models?

They simply won't appear.

You cannot have custom models, and are required to take screenshots of your HUD before each round as evidence.

Skill wise.... CAL is difficult. I will freely admit that I generally DO NOT do terribly well in the average CAL match. Many of us don't, and eGO's Team has never yet made the playoffs. CAL is a challenge. You should be able to keep a 2-1 kill to death ratio, minimum, on an eGO server, with your favorite weapon(s). Bare in mind... this is a minimum. Generally speaking, when playing on a large public server like those that eGO runs here, you should be one of the dominant players on the server.

Okay, thanks spetz.

i have a month to figure out how to put the standards back on :)
and hmm well i'm gonna try, i normally don't have a good score, but i make things happen :)\
btw RECRUIT LT. WOLF :)

Although I doubt I will participate in matches this time around (still considering tryouts again) I will be more than willing to help out whenever needed. Weather that means subbing or helping during practice, just let me know if you need any help Spetz.

Duality and thezohan get my votes for prospectives snipers on the team, though thezohan is still an e and duality needs to be convinced to go back it seems :D

I myself am not good enough for CAL though :/ 1.2kpd ftl

I used to play DoD:S CAL matches for my buddy back in the day; I did well. Course I was actually good at the game then. I still usually have a 2:1 or higher score, so if my schedule permits, I might go to tryouts. Probably not good enough anymore to make it though.

Well, i would suggest for starters playing CAL maps like Argentan, Anzio, Coire, Lennon, Harrington, Thunder/Donner, Solitude, and the like. One of the biggest disadvantages one can have is not knowing the map.

I might start playing DoD:S again for CAL... We will see though... I still have my sniping skills I think. I'll start playing some again. You know what the maps are going to be?

shame its for eG,eGO only, im a (e) for already 6 monts now or 5, and im not a bad player 1.8kpd ftw :)

i'd try out, but i dont even now most of the cal maps. i only play ava, donner, flash, sometimes strand. bubba fenix is pretty good tho, gl

As has already been said, the first and most important issue is familiarity with the maps. If all you play is Ava, or Donner, or whatever... you're going to fail miserably.

One of the keys to CAL is knowing where the enemy will come from, knowing where you need to go, and knowing the intricacies of each map... hiding spots, sniper spots, nade traps, etc etc. Google CAL League, go to their DOD:S division, and look at the maps they're playing.... then, LEARN THOSE MAPS. Find servers running them, and play play play.

I hope nobody is scared away from CAL just because of new maps. I think most of the team 2 seasons ago never played maps besides our 24/7's. Then we hoped on Solitude_match for a practice run and most of us were lost (lol, good times). Then we started practicing on them and knowing the routes and before you knew it we were doing alright. Just try to get acquainted with maps before the season starts.

hey guys, i play on a cal-i team in dod:s (signed up for tf2 on your forums actually, but was just curious about the dods section). good luck, cal is fun indeed. :D don't forget to visit www.fragdods.com and make an account. ;) that's the website for the competitive dods community, you'll find most active players there. the community is "interesting" but you could get used to it.
