Why is granary and gravelpit no longer played?

Unlocking this thread. Metatron has expressed no desire to ask for the maps to come back on our servers or questioning our map choices, but is instead seeking some answer as to why the maps lost popularity. Not sure what kind of answer is to be had, but have fun.

Yup.

The main thing is, I had the game since beta, played it until around december. Then stopped playing until around feburary.

When I played, granary and gravil pit were hot. All the maps were played. I come back and the game is 2fort and dustbowl.

I've never understood why the game became 2 maps in 3 months time.

Was it related to the instant respawn phenononom of the time? I know around that tiem Valve let servers change to instant respawn, although I can't see why for the life of me that would kill all maps except two.

Well I say it is 1.Inability to turtle. No matter how hard we don't like it some people just want to camp and camping is pretty hard on this map since it has multiple paths and requires the basics of teamwork. For gravelpit well they both took a long time to reach the action unlike 2fort and dustbowl where you walk out and the action is close by?
I also liked gravelpit and granary.

Well, I played both maps for a while ... that is, until I discovered Warpath. I gotta say, nothing beats that one, IMO. Granary and Gravel Pit .... Good concepts, and fun maps when you have a big scrim goin on and everybody knows what they're doing, but pub-style, not worth the time. You don't see the stale mates on those maps as much b/c they're so spread out. Warpath is choke point after choke point.

Personally, Granary and Gravel Pit became boring, predictable maps for me. So glad to see new stuff like cp_steel and badwater basin. Also, the new Arena_Lumberyard is way cool, best Valve map I've seen in a while.
