destruction only little kids play order
Hey, do not diss the purple!
As a very hardcore MMO fanatic, let me put my two cents in (I've literally played every MMO out there at some point) as well as an elder beta tester for WAR.
In regards to launchs, its no secret that EA botched it bad. Some CE copes don't have registration codes with them, the retailers and EA communication was horrible. In short, it was bad. Not as bad as it could have been by a long shot, but bad. THATs where most of the bad news if from. Notice I said EA here, and not Mythic (as EA is the one who funded Mythic and deals with retail and supply, Mythic is purely a design company).
The game itself, as far as actual launches go, has been the biggest success I've seen for a new MMO. Yes, it has its bugs and quirks, but all in all its very tightly knit and well put together. The classes mesh well, the quests are intuitive and have their own quirky, dark type of humor. Even the littlest things (like at the character select screen, if you spin your character they do a heaving or throwing up animation). Public Quests are a blast, and Open Parties make it so you never have to wait three hours to get some exp or loot (aka FFXI). Speaking of loot, its very very detailed...and the dyes are varied and plentiful. You start off with 15 to chose from, and quests and mobs drop different dyes as well. Each piece of equipment has two different areas to dye, the main and the detail, so there are hundreds of combos.
The abilities and talents are unique and varied, and though the server lags sometimes (probable memory leak) the actions are crisp. Their title and Tome of Knowledge is unique and very fun (By the way, Blizzard ripped off the whole achievement thing from WAR...it's been confirmed). Some of them are hilarious. PVP is fun, with unique abilities and class specific moves. Open RVR is basically "watch your back at all times", with Core RVR being flagged in pvp areas. It's hella fun, and the gear you get for reknown (80 ranks in all) is tailor made for your class and varies often. You're never stuck with one set of armor for umpteen levels.
Now for the faults. The tradeskills are somewhat lackluster. You have five gathering skills, but only two trade. They DID say they were going to expand onto it, and in light of their focus on other things its to be expected. Gold spammers already populate the servers, however Mythic is taking a VERY active role and banning them immediately in unique and fun ways. There is even talk of an "open season", where a gold spammer is flagged for both side as killable.
All in all, WAR is shaping up to be a very good MMO. It was never meant to outright challenge WOW, because wow has such a huge head start. But it's definitely a contender.
