I'm trying to figure out if its something that just started with my connection or if anyone else is feeling it.... I am consistently pinging 50+ MS higher than my normal. Anyone else?

If its just your ISP messing up, and will pass over time?
Got no other explanation, my connection is just fine taking in consideration that the server is in..Dallas? And I am in Finland.

It's your computer. I recommend that you reformat and reinstall everything several times. That's the trick. ;)

I would check any firewalls you have installed or talk to your ISP, haven't noticed anything different recently myself.

Your internet connection/ISP have nothing to do with your ping/latency.

It's the distance you are from the server.

Yahtzee,
If you are the demoman that seems to load my body up with stickies constantly on warpath, GOOD!

:D

If he's the guy I'm thinking of, he used to be like the only person I'd uber, when I played medic.
Man... I haven't been on Warpath in a while now.

Nice, you sound like a team player =p

Aww now I feel bad. :P
Haha.. Yeah, well I figured it was best to uber people who knew what they were doing. There was no point in continuing to uber the guy just runs in circles for 10 seconds... as humorous as it was.

I'm pretty sure it was Yahtzee, but I have a bad memory, so who knows.

You would uber him? Sad.

Hey, I remember you too. Another awesome demo.
Actually, playing on Warpath helped me realize what an awful demoman I really am.
So, I decided to play medic and just heal them... to feel like I'm a part of it. :*(

I'm guessing you're named after the fun game involving dice and not the fun reviewer involving games?

But yeah, ping is based on your location and how fast your connection is. I find if I'm downloading something in the background it makes my ping go super-high. Or, if it's raining sometimes my connection slows down/stops completely.

*shrug*

Try this out PC users: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKV4iHvdR2M[/ame]
I've tried this and it actually works pretty darn well.

So many things affect ping! Your network connection, your ISP, the server, the time of day, even your PC itself.

If your PC is behaving normally but pings are up, I would look to see what else is running. You may be downloading something (e.g. Windoze update) or someone else on your network may be doing same. If you don't see anything obvious, do a Ctrl-alt-del and look at task manager. Google any tasks you don't recognize to get their descriptions -- you may have spyware or a virus. Just in case, run a full scan with virus and spyware checker(s).

If your whole PC is slow and stuttery, you may be running a background virus scan or similar. Check task manager and sort by CPU, see what keeps popping up at the top.

Also try different times of day. Peak hours for the internet are around 8 p.m. The whole internet tends to be slower then.

If your pings stay up over a couple of nights, it could be your ISP. Call to see if they are having router or DNS problems or something. If you are on cable, maybe they put more people on your local loop (everyone in your neighborhood shares it). If you are on DSL, it could be bad connection to your DSLAM or even wet earth between you and the CO causing ground faults (did it rain hard recently?). With DSL they can tweak things to improve your ping usually at the cost of bandwidth (basically, reducing bandwidth so you don't have so many errors and retries).

Another thought... if you are using wireless, someone may have bumped your antenna. Check your PC and your WAP. Or, there may be something causing interference like a cordless phone or baby monitor, or a neighbor started using the same channel. Try a different channel.

You really do love to hate me!

I've gone through and cleaned my computer to try and see if installing Warhammer, which is the only thing I have done since my connection seems to have slowed down, had anything to do with it with no success. I'm leaving on vacation to fly fish for a week in a few days so I'll deal with my ISP when I get back if it hasn't fixed itself before then. For now, have fun on Warpath without me.

(I'm sure you are excited to hear that Iadien)

I would assume because you hate me so much that even seeing my name come up in your deathspam makes you mad.

pong!

There is a way to shift your ISP in regedit. I did it once for WoW, and it dropped me from 256ms to around 70ms. I'll look it up again and let you know in pm (or on here).
