Question regarding Clan Tags...

I've set up a bind to change my name to include the ego tag when i'm on ego servers. (If I leave it on permanently, the tag prevents me from playing on some decent pubs when ego servers are full.)

An admin (and a very eager =e=) on one of the ego servers decided to kick me either because I'm using the bind when I get on the server or because I can't manage the tm sign through the bind. (For whatever reason that special character prevents the full name from being recognized by setinfo -- spaces are okay, it's just that tm that's the trick.)

My question is two-fold:

1. Is using binds to include the clan tag when I'm on ego servers not allowed? Do I have to have the clan tag on my name permanently?

2. If binds are allowed, does anybody know how to get the tm sign included in the name using setinfo?

I searched through clan FAQs for an answer to #1 and didn't find anything, and googling for an answer to #2 has been fruitless.

I enjoy playing on the ego servers and decided to join the clan and use the tag when I'm on the servers as a measure of support, but if I've got to deal with admins kicking me over a silly tm sign and/or name swap, I'll forget the tag permanently.

I guess I'll take a shot at the answer here. Tagging on that e without the TM as you enter the server might make it appear that you're impersonating a member or not a real member or something of that nature. As for using a bind with the TM, I would suggest copy and pasting it into the bind? I don't know if special characters work in console, but that's all I've got in terms of suggestions.

yeah, copy and paste is a no-go. i've put the char in there, it just breaks the string or something for the setinfo command.

thanks for the reply, though. i get that they think i'm impersonating, but i don't see how the name change from the console is a dead giveaway. i could just as well falsely set my name up using the steam browser to include the tag (with the tm). i asked them to look me up but they were busy kicking me.

i guess it's a pretty loose system altogether. until i hear otherwise i'll just leave the tag off to prevent any confusion or hard feelings. i don't want to get a reputation when my intentions are honest.

does anyone know how to insert the alt-0153 char into a name from the console using setinfo?

There is no problem with taking your tag off to play on other servers, or in other games. The rule is that the tag must be worn on eGO servers, and that if you do wear the tag on any other server (not eGO), that you hold yourself to a standard as if you were on an eGO server, because with the tag on you represent us.
Not having the TM behind your name is a somewhat big deal, and you can and will be warned and kicked if you don't have it, or fail to put it on. eGO is a registered trademark, so not having the TM, or wearing the tag without permission is a trademark violation.
As far as I am aware there is no problem with having a bind, but I'll let an ad visor address that. It may be that this is the first time it has come up! :)

Thanks for the reply! It sounds like using a bind is okay...that's good. However, now it sounds like I've got to figure out how to get the alt+0153 to register in my script.

Whenever I've tried to include TM, I get an error message at the console that shows me the appropriate syntax for setinfo. What I have set up in my autoexec.cfg is:
bind "F11" "egotag"
alias egotag "exec egotag.cfg"
and I have a file called egotag.cfg in my cfg folder with the following line:
setinfo name "=(e)= one two three"
Now with that line, there's no problem when I hit my bind key, which changes my name on the server to =(e)= one two three. However, if I have as my line in egotag.cfg:
setinfo name "=(e)=™ one two three"
then nothing happens and I get the message in the console about syntax for setinfo. The TM is definitely the problem, and I don't know how to get around it.

I just always play on egO servers, as i see no need unless im sniping only maps (very rarely)

the only problem that i can see with this is that last time you joined the turbine server i saw you put your clan tag and thought you were new to the the clan. So I congragulated you but you didnt respond

Having the trademark sign is very important. It's not a joke, it's really trademarked. It may be silly to you, but it's not a joke.
