I'd definitely like the DM mode if it was an official map...
So the closest to dm is ctf (cti :D)
I don't really like playing on short maps e.g. payload because it switches the teams after the short game is over and the 2 different teams have a different role (attack/defence) and I definitely prefer defensive roles because you can get lost of frags without being that skilled...
(I keep dying from Pyros as a Scout) and when on BLU, the offensife classes are much more effective in these game modes. So I like playing defensive classes without doing "nothing" in the game.

CTF for me but if there's a new DM mode in next update, I definitely vote for DM :D

DM doesn't have to be official for me to make one. Basically, death match just requires some interesting geometry and away you go. There just needs to be a round timer, and it's done. Killing for the sake of killing.

Easiest map type to make, by far, but I think due to low popularity I won't be making one of those right now.

Payload still seems popular, but I think I may have settled on something.

I'm building the framework for a map right now, and assuming it goes as planned, (never something to assume) I will have a new map up soon.

I'm still interested to know what everyone's favorites are. This framework that I have right now would probably work well on multiple types of maps.

A cp with ctf mixed into it.Put the intel somewhere high up and then 3 or 4 cps.First team to 10 points win.You get a point by capping the points which decrease spawn times??( fill it in ,you're making the map) and then by capping the intel.

Mostly I like that CTF maps don't have time limits. I'm a very deliberate, slow-paced player (unless I play scout, then its zipping around batting in snipers) so having to be constantly moving on other maps doesn't mesh well with me.

BTW, the 2nd category (think you have it as equal somethingorother) is actually called a Linear Capture map. Just FYI ;)

i like cp maps but no one knows how to play them, thats why ego doesnt have a badlands server. they know tf2 players dont know any strategies for cp, thats why barely anyone plays that map anymore. and if ur on a noob team then u got no hope on that map, at least on attck/defend or payload u can still pick up the slack of noob players

dreadmaker if anything, u should come up with a new concept, or integrate it with an existing one, like pl switch. but if i must vote id say make a attack and defend

Equal CP, Warpath hands down. These maps must have organized teams who can take timely chances to move (the ball). I equate it to a football match. For this type of gameplay, the players make the map, the map doesn't make the players, and because of this, the teams are intimately connected.
