Dedicated server issues.

Attempted to set up my dedicated server today, with no luck. Anyone know how to set one up correctly? Anyone who tries to join says the server is not responding, nor is it showing up in the search games list even though I have it on "Internet" instead of LAN.

you have to forwrds your ports on your router. google it and see if you can figure out how to get to your router page. if you can get there i can help you.

you best bet is to google you router name.....or look in your owners manual to see if it gives you a number like 21.21.58.125 or something like that, this is your routers page, go to the internet and type http://(then that number).....if it comes up as a page save it to your favs and contact me. and i'll help you from there.

what type of internet service do you have? also what brand router? i just went trough this a couple weeks ago..so it's still kinda fresh in my mind...you have to log into your router, and set ur security settings to minimum, this allowing incoming and outgoing data to be allowed freely....for some reason when i put my settings on normal, with the correct ports forwarded it doesn't show up on the public server listing...so i just switch them back when i am done with my session....but anyway...log into your router and forward ports "any -> 27015" that allows the incoming/outgoing data to be recognized as "ok" i guess and everything should be good to go...some routers even have "preset" options for port forwarding based on what game u are playing...mine had a "half-life server" option with was extremely convenient...any questions please feel free to ask and i will try to walk u through as best i can..

I have a Netgear WPN311 router. But whenever I try to open up the settings on the router, nothing shows up.

i googled that "router"..and it looks like it's a wireless card, not a router...when u are changing the settings where are you going? for me my IP address for my router is 192.168.1.1 and then i have to use a user name and password to get into my router to change the settings...check out the model of the wireless router that sends the signal to the card that you are talking about there should be an online manual that shows you how to forward the ports.

yah we need to know your router brand....try finding the owners manual it will have the IP in there

yeah that's my wireless card.

well correct me if I'm wrong. wont my ISP shut off my internet if I set up a server seeing as how I'm not really paying for its use?

Go to start run then cmd
type ipconfig
It will say something to the effect of default gateway. Type that number the you browser then you will get your router page.

Are you using SRCDS? I tried using the TF2 dedicated server tool and that didn't work so I tried SRCDS and it worked perfectly. Portforwarding on the tf2 dedicated server tool doesn't always work so you might wanna try SRCDS
