Spore!

totally forgot to mention....

The absolute biggest downfall of the game... EA's DRM in Spore....

3 installs.... that's it... if you want to install it more then 3 times you have to call them and ask for activation...

It's supposed to reduce piracy... but when companies do things like that it causes more piracy because... guess what? non of the pirates have to worry about it! how ironic is that?

and IF the game sales don't match what they expected "blame piracy!" HAHAHAHA...grrr

Actually the DRM is far worse than that. In every copy of Spore EA has put in a little program called securom. Secrom is in all meaning of the word a "virus" it runs at all times(eating up RAM), it is nearly impossible to unistall it(wont come off when you uninstall the game), and to make matters worse it monitors your usage of spore(Big Brother).

Spore has a rating of one star on [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Spore-Pc/dp/B000FKBCX4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1220996591&sr=8-1"]Amazon[/ame] (Based on 1766 reviews) because of this.

Nice. What's wrong with EA? Are they bloody retarded?

Even - the thing's online. What's the point? Why not just *ban* bad keys? How hard is it to check a database of *all of the -valid- keys you've issued*?

The real solution to the piracy problem is dynamic content - which forces a phone home. Once the client connects to the publisher, the publisher can lock the client out of 90% of the fun of any title if proven a pirate ( by a non-issued "valid" key. )

The online game puts the power in the publisher's hands. Spore, really, should have zero DRM - there's no excuse.

And besides, I think it's been proven already -

antipiracy software, is useless. The stuff gets unlocked by your PC. I mean, your computer needs to be instructed how to do it ... it can ALWAYS and WILL ALWAYS be broken by a skilled person. They're acting like everyone's an idiot. That's the reason people keep cracking their "security". The only purpose antipiracy software plays - is to piss off legitimate buyers of software.

In my experience whenever something new and popular comes out it will always be sold out at EB or Gamestop. My suggestion is to go to Wal-mart. They always have whatever I'm looking for that's sold out elsewhere. It's like they have hacks or something.

Thats where i got mine :D! everywhere else is sold out. This game is just outstanding.

I'm undecided to get this for the DS or not... I'm thinking it could be a good game to keep me busy on the tube commute into work but I have a feeling it'll be nothing like the PC game?! Anyone got it on DS?

Sercom will also refuse to install or run if Process Explorer is installed on your system. Process explorer is a handy application originally made by SysInternal and then purchased by Microsoft. It allows you to see what processes/applications are doing on your PC. Because it can dump process information Sercom doesn't want people to see what they're doing so the build in the PE protection.

Spore had such great potential, but EA and their restrictive DRM policies is going to ruin a great game. Also, the evolution engine was not launched as promised so extra legs are just eye candy. A single leg creature is just as fast a multi-leg creature... bah.

$50 to rent a game is not worth it. Let's look at EAs record:

Ranked BF2 Servers - Fail
Ranked BF2142 Servers - FAIL
Spyware in BF2142 - Fail
DRM in Spore - Fail

Goooooo EA!

bbwahahahahhaha im on the space colony part now and i put every gun on my ship and it has blinking lights everywhere

You'll suffer eternally for that Gore. :D

Im still on the wire, half of me wants a new, unique game. Other half cautious about spending money on a game i might not play in 3 or 4 months time. !bang

My boyfriend bought Spore last night. I can't wait to play it myself it's such cute looking game. We watched the bonus DVD last night and it was really good. I suggest getting the special version or whatever it's called.

I want this game so bad, but I have the money, I want Spore and The Force Unleashed, so this is a problem for me:confused:

I've actually refused to buy anymore EA Games.....because of DRM and what they are doing to their games. Just like bf2142 spyware where they put ads in game based on what you searched for on the internet.

spore is so much fun xD its what ive been doing with all of my time since last wednesday when it was leaked in australia

!bang So I downloaded the spore creator on monday, a day before it came out. I installed, made sure everything was correctly done, and clicked the icon. 5 min of anticipation I heard that default message response everyone dreads and it read "Graphics too low, game will not continue." Yea that wasn't fun...!argh

Hopefully you guys are playing it on hard. I'm on my way to beating space stage, in the beginning you have to fight A LOT... kinda sucks. But once you get passed that it's clear sailing... atleast from what I can see.

Anyone know how the ds version is? I know it isn't as good as the PC version (which I don't have) and think it might be fun none the less. Can i get every one's 2? (that way i can get both versions)

The reason i'll get if for DS is one cheaper two I can't afford it and L4D three i can play it on the go (which i'd be more likely not to play spore when on PC)

I am SO tempted to buy this game.
But it uses SecuROM!!!

They also dumbed the game down A LOT. Originally it was a;
"Advanced evolution simulation"
Something like that, now it is;
"Play some mini-games!"

I'm loving this game. It's awesome. My one gripe is the lack of auto saving. Last night I got all the way to the space age, but then after about an hour there, my game crashed. suddenly, I'm at the creature stage again.

Sigh.

However, the game is really fun. I have started several games trying out different creature types, and I have to say I like the Omnivores best... although I need to experiment more with the herbivores.
