Apocalypse?

all i would say is that we would live very long but it wont come soon if it does we wont all die

if we do go through a black hole i hope we go to a similar dimension

If you watched the discovery channel they took you through the hadron collider and said "The probability of a single black hole being produced is very unlikely" what will be produced however is certain types of atoms and particles that i forget the name of. Stephen hawking said If they did produce blackholes they would be tiny and dissipate in an instant. Dont Worry. Well live.

they said the odds of something potentially threatening to the human race were 1 in about 50 million. Which are the same odds for some lotteries. Someone wins the lottery at least once every couple of weeks.....

Unfortunately going through black holes do not lead you to other dimensions. They lead you to a very quick but painful death. Your body is stretched and then compressed into the tiniest atom possible, if I remember right from physics.

I heard they have been doing experiments like this is smaller machines often here in the USA (with the same supposed risks), If Stephen Hawkings said we will be okay im going to belive him and not some nutter reporter.

If they do produce magnetic monopoles then i would expect the word to end. Magnetic monopoles cannot exist. Do not ever imply that Maxwell's equations do not hold.

Other than that let it rip. I want to see Hawking get a Noble prize before he dies. If they produce a black hole he will get it.

That is speculation. It is possible our universe is simply a black hole. Besides no known physical laws are known to explain what occurs inside a black hole.

It's one thing where the 1 chance equals $50,000,000, it's quite another when it's the END OF THE WORLD. :X

Nothing is going to happen end of story.

To many people say the world is going to end at so and so time because of something blah blah blah its all fake. If civilization is going to end it'll probably be at our own hands with all the stuff that we are doing to the world today. I think another major world war could do a lot of damage tho

Guys...I just had a dream last night. The world's going to end March of 2050. Spread it around, post it in all your other forums. THIS IS BIG.

Yes, but keep in mind that there are millions upon millions of people playing the lottery.

There is only 1 Large Hadron Collider.

hmm yeah I guess that's true. I guess we just go with the flow and let them do it, because there is no way they are going to scrap it when 4 billion already went into making it.

Besides, death by black hole would be the coolest way to die. :D

1. Eat 27 Big Mac meals. Who?s counting the calories?

2. Visit all seven continents.

3. Try out all 64 Kama Sutra positions.

4. Watch the entire box sets of Lost, Heroes and Prison Break.

5. Cruise the River Nile.

6. Drive to Switzerland for a ringside seat of doomsday.

7. Complete Super Mario: The Lost Levels.

8. Catch England?s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra on Saturday and ? if we?re still alive ? England v Croatia on September 10 If we lose, it?ll feel like the end of the world anyway!

9. Cancel the milk and papers.

lol the first one is funny

yeah, I know but its the fact that those scientists are doing that with the potential risk of a black hole opening up an engulfing the earth... so why if it could risk the human race?
This is from like page 1, but I'd like to state my opinion on it. As smart as people are in comparison to the rest of the planet, we're also the biggest idiots.

Besides which, I have a somewhat creepy story involving not the end of mankind in 2012, but a plague that wipes out a large percentage of the population around that general time. My friend has crazy dreams. His dreams were future based after like 90% of the Earth's population was wiped out due to some strange kind of respiratory virus.

Tell him to stop watching 12 Monkeys at night.

The Mayan Calendar ending in the year 2012 is interesting. I could consider religious, scientific, sociological points of view. But from a somewhat Zen point of view where does the idea that we will be around a long time comes from? And why do we have to exist a long time? Even if we manage to last a long time the possible combinations of the basic components of DNA makes it such that after some time, between 15 million and some billion on the last estimate i heard which is not exact, we will die off because our DNA will create combinations that eventually will lead to our complete, unavoidable death. Which is an idea i like because something which some are so fundamentally against could create ways for us to deal with such circumstances. And the flat earthist's moment of realization that the world is round is much more than priceless.

To answer why should we do these crazy things let me say this. Being able to say how the universe came to be and why it would be the most monumental moment in history. That cannot be topped. What will become of religion and how will it shape our society? And i am not even considering the technological advances we will be able to make with a Unified Theory. Just look at what Quantum Theory, with the Pauli Principle and Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, and General Relativity, with no absolute frame of reference and the distortion of time and black holes and time travel, have done to shape our world.

People don't realize that this is not the first machine of it's kind, and that there is a less safe smaller one that's been running for years and years, not to mention what this LHC does what the earth has been doing since it's creation billions of years ago naturally, the world will end when some idiot decides that nuking a country is a good idea, The Mayan calender ends, simply because, THEY DO NOT HAVE PC's GENERATING THEM... The guy's wrist probably got tired or something, jesus people... 2012 is a joke

Its ok...if something goes wrong...we have the right person for the job.
