Man fined $12,000 for speedy two-wheeled ride on Alberta highway

EDSON, Alta. - An Alberta man has been fined $12,000 for roaring down a highway on his motorcycle at more than twice the speed limit.

RCMP say the huge penalty was handed down this week to a 34-year-old man from Hinton, Alta.

They say on May 1, the speeder was clocked at 263 kilometres per hour on the Yellowhead Highway between Hinton and Edson in western Alberta.

The speed limit there is 110 km/h.

It's the second steep fine to be handed out in the past three months for speeding on that stretch of highway.

In June, traffic court in Hinton ordered a man from Prince George, B.C., to pay $8,500 for going 206 km/h.

263 kilometres per hour is enough to kill himself or another person(s). I agree with the fine. Just like in California if you drive too fast you get suspended and can have your car confiscated. Doing 140 mph on the freeway here you will do jail time for that. I am impressed though that his bike goes that fast.

People who speed on public roads should be fined even more, if you get fined an entire year's worth of your paychecks, it kind of prevents you from joyriding one night, and playing God with some innocent life who shares the road, and I don't mean 5mph over the limit, 263km/h when the limit is 110... That's definitely take his license and car away-worthy (Or bike, in this case)

For us USAicans

Speed limit: ~68 mph
He was going: ~163 mph
He was fined: $11,330 USD

oh man...declaring bankruptcy over a speeding ticket much? lmao

he should sue the automaker for not installing a governor on his car
